Really hope we don’t go for Dyche. Clearly a good manager keeping Burnley in the prem with a net spend of £52 million over the past 5 seasons (ours has £56 million for reference).

However, it just smacks of a lack of an ambition and yet again picking the “safe” option. The style of football, low key transfer targets and general philosophy would be largely similar to Roy. The bloke we have been desperate to get rid of for the last year!!! When we are being linked with 29 year old Robbie Brady on a free, it sums up perfectly what we’d get with Dyche.

Without doubt options like Lampard, Howe or Cooper would be greater risk due to lack of premier league experience but I genuinely think the potential reward is much, much more.

What is your ambition?

With our financial restraints we are more or less where we should be. If there is magic money tree we can look to be more ambitious.

I wasn't desperate to get rid of Roy, I wish he was ten years younger

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Dyche would be a case of "The king is dead, long live the king".

He's a terrific manager but it would very much be a safety first approach, one that I suspect the owners will be keen on.

As a fan though, at some point you are within your rights to ask for at least a semblance of ambition and attractive football. People go on about how we don't spend the money but Leeds' wage bill is a quarter of ours.

Dean Smith 'lacked Premier League experience' and it hasn't done Villa much harm. Then again, they do exercise the cheque book more than we do.

Have to say i agree with you, with Dyche we get percentage football,to me he's just a younger version of Roy,will be massively underwhelmed if it's him.

Please sign new deal with Burnley.

While I can understand the attraction of appointing Dyche, it would not stack up to the supposed reasons why Parish didn't offer Hodgson another deal - namely the switch to a more ( hate the word but here goes ) ' expansive ' football.

My own personal theory is that Roy didn't want another deal anyway. It wouldn't surprise me if one was actually offered but he declined it. What resulted left everybody with their dignity and reputations intact.

Sean Dyche
Too expensive.
Too risky.

Not worth it Mr P. Go for an out of contract manager and use the money on a new exciting player for us to drool over.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Dyche would be the best option for a low expectation approach with limited funds.
There are more desirable managers out there, but they won't come to a club who won't spend money and whose only ambition is to stay up.

I suppose, being realistic, one has to question the value of spending tons of money to finish a few places higher in the league anyway. Unless some seismic changes occur in our income streams, we cannot possibly challenge for Europe and without 30 or so top players, it would be crazy to try.
I would love to have Rafa Benitez or someone of that calibre come in and be happy with our budget, but that is my best optimism talking.

I think we have to look at our position in the right context. This is the first time we have been able to call ourselves a proper Premier League club. Our top flight flirtations have never lasted more than two seasons before this and usually one. One day we might have the ownership to take us forward but right now we have to be sensible.

Doesn’t seem likely that Sean Dyche is coming now given the money involved so we’re going to have to look elsewhere. I wouldn’t mind giving Cooper a chance even though it would be a bit risky but I can’t see him leaving if Swansea win today. Maybe Eddie Howe is back in the frame, who knows?

They've spent a fortune recently, and Smith nearly got them relegated last season despite spending all that cash.
To me a manager is as good as their budget. I'm not saying I want Dyche, but in that respect he would be absolutely perfect. The fact he got Burnley a year in the Europa League is exactly where we are- wouldn't we all dream of just one European trip?

How do you know that, it could very conceivably be the other way round.

Play safe & boring, BUT, get relegated OR, play expansive, exciting & open football & end up in the top 10.

You never know.
