Steve Cooper is a far, far more suitable candidate than Frank Lampard. And the majority of vitriol thrown in his direction is silly.

Can you see top players being attracted to play for a manager with such a limited cv as Cooper's?

"Top players" aren’t the remit for Palace. Young players are. And, yes, young players will absolutely want to play for Cooper.

Before the season ended I took a cursory look at the options and thought Steve Cooper would be a good fit for us - knows the Championship where he could direct Dougie where to pick up the 4/5 of the players we need

Of course had he got through the playoffs he’d have stayed put and there lies the conundrum - how do we pick an eligible Championship level manager? The only ones available will have failed to have secured promotion and so be tainted in the eyes of many.

It’s a similar situation for the likes of Scott Parker.

I always thought Lampard wasn’t experienced enough as a manager full stop. I want someone who’s done the job for 5-10 years minimum. If Southampton can get a manager like Ralph Hasenhuttl - why can’t we? Maybe Cooper is that man but the club obviously need to sort this. It’s long…

If Lampard is actually an option ,then it’s Lampard for me.
It can’t be denied that when he got the sack, he was going through
a difficult spell every manager has them, the reasons for these spells are invariably complex and not every factor is down to the manager by some way.
It seems the thing to dam Lampard , on not seeming to integrate and work with some high profile Germans yet little mention of gaining a champions league place with what was at times a team loaded with relatively untried young players the season before.. if he was coming to us it’s that form that should interest us,
It’s debatable we could match the basic quality’s of the Chelsea, young brigade, but he had them firing well above average,. He won’t have to inspire high grade Germans, at Palace, hopefully it will be a bunch of useful young players with a smattering of experienced hands to gee them along.
I don’t see it as Lampard, at all cost, but we could do a lot worse,Imho.

Fair point however I think if we are looking for young players Lampard would be a huge draw

Rubbish,
With the squad he had Swansea should have walked that division last season. Instead he barely scraped into the play offs. By the end they were awful.
There is zero to like about Cooper. He is an inexperienced version of Roy Hodgson. I'd rather have Dyche and I never wanted him!

If we appoint Cooper one of two things will happen. He'll either not see out the season in the Selhurst dugout or we'll be relegated. Or both.

Agreed, He'll have a go, he'll use the kids and he has a point to prove after his Chelsea experience.
I would have had Favre or even Nuno but if we are running out of options its Lampard for me.

I am very iffy about Cooper. He has more doubters than endorsers. A no from me if it is him of lampard.
If it’s him or Freedman it’s a yes!!

With the greatest of respect, that is absolutely baseless horses***. "With the squad Swansea have"?? Have you seen the squad they have?

Swansea were not one of the favourites for promotion in either of the last 2 seasons. Since Cooper came in they’ve sold around £60m worth of players. Graham Potter had the team with the £60m worth of players and finished 10th. Cooper also lost the likes of Brewster and Gallagher in his second season. He still pushed for promotion the whole campaign and finished 4th.

Frank Lampard was given money at Derby. He also had amount & Tomori. As I said, he equalled Gary Rowetts record. At Chelsea, he stumbled into the top 4 one season - granted. But that was with a world class team that finished 3rd and won a European trophy the year before. The season after he spent over 200m and left them in 9th.

The only reason Lampard has managed in the PL is because he is Frank Lampard. The only reason he is linked to this job is because he’s Frank Lampard.

The truth is, there are plenty of managers in world football but if our reported list of candidates are accurate - Lampard is about the least suitable man for the job.

But other than that, yeah let’s get Lampard.
