I've been told that SP and DF have put all the names in a hat and will be picking the winner out at midday. If it's Ismael, Dougie has agreed for it to go on to be the best of three.

White Smoke expected over Soho Square shortly afterwards.

That actually got me excited. Then I realised it was only the Jerk Chicken Shack burning the salad again.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

As a fan who I'd like to think is more pragmatic than some on here, for example not being part of the Hodgeson out brigade, I find myself torn between the managers we have been linked with.

Cooper feels like the right fit, and I should be in support of his appointment but I just feel he is a risky, untested poor mans Dyche. If we want the heir apparent to Hodgeson it's Dyche. Appointing Cooper would be skipping a line of succession. So in summary...underwhelming

NES is a coach I have admired for a while and feel he is destined for great things. Unfortunately I can't help but feel that the best fit for him is the Everton job. Ancelotti leaving has really thrown a spanner in the works for that one. I expect him to go there.

However, if we did get him I really think it would be seen as a real coup. Maybe, just maybe NES feels that the impression of him is of a coach who has succeeded due to the money Wolves have spent and him being perceived as a bit of a Mendes lap dog. Maybe, just maybe he wants to prove his credentials as a coach, take a club in a tricky position and sort them out and the plaudits that would go with that.

I see people talk about how the Mendes link would be damaging for Palace. The suggestion that Mendes through NES would be pushing big money signings on us to line his own pockets. I'd hazard to remind that Mendes will not just have `big` players on his books but hundreds of other potential stars, just think of his network, contacts and scouting network!

Can easily see a scenario where Palace provides a platform, a shop window where these potential stars can be showcased and yes may well move on but we could make a hefty profit in the process (Will be in Mendes's interests too). Could be exciting times but a lot of if's in there but its not out the question.

I agree 100% with everything you have said. An excellent post

Yes, you're right ME. Even worse than waiting for the announcement of the Celebrity MasterChef winner.

It did amuse me yesterday though after the Everton news. All the same names were suddenly in the frame there too. Just hope that whoever joins us doesn't decide to leave part way through his contract. One of Roy's qualities was his loyalty to our club.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

As an aside. I’ve been on the HOL for a number of years. I’ve also been signed up to the BBS for a while but only started using it recently. I noticed that there often seems to be a sense of rivalry between the 2 sites and appears to be a lot of vitriol towards the HOL on the BBS, but from posting a couple of times RE the new manager - it really is a horror show over there, isn’t it?

We're the Arthur over ere!

Just been reported on the BBC live feed that Tekkers is in contract talks with us. In the same article the quote Andros having said that the players contracts are on `hold` as the club want to check with the new manager before proceeding....Nuno allegedly in talks for 3 days, now Tekkers in contract talks after what Andros has said....dare we read between the lines? is there something imminent?

I personally cant see the hype around cooper! Most of my friends are swans fans and my family are split between palace and swans. Most were doubtfull he would have kept them up next year if they beat Brentford. But we all have doubts he will cut it in the prem with palace and it wont be pretty football either.
I do believe if palace did sign him too there would be a 4/5Mill compensation fee owed to swans, with it being such a gamble id rather that help toward the bringing/luring in of Nuno. His style suits us more.
Cooper for me is a step backwards, whereas Nuno for me is a sign of intent.

Nuno would be a brilliant choice. Sky Sports currently calling him the front-runner after 3 days of talks.

I think the majority of us would love Nuno to come but the Everton job becoming available has thrown a massive spanner in the works. I know Everton fans like to think of themselves as a big club even though they never achieve anything apart from finishing somewhere between 7th and 9th every season so maybe they would be looking for a bigger name like Benitez for example.

Im in the same boat as you mate . Whoever takes over at Palace has got the most difficult job in the prem league . 14 players out of contract and expected to keep us in the league all on a shoestring budget. This is too important to the club and should not be left in the hands of a manager with no premeier league experience .

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

It should be this week. But what if it isn’t? What does it say about the club, and its approach to next season?
Surely Hodgsons , leaving didn’t come as a bolt out of the blue. And an alternative put more or less in place. Surely 11/15 players out of contact , and not addressed by June, with a transfer window opening, is not thought to contain the ingredients for a massive balls up. As things stand the club is acting more like a fourth tier outfit than a Premier, team on the point of turning round that amount of players, with just about anyone on the manager merry go round likely to turn up some time soon.
I have a funny feeling about all of this, I can only hope it’s washed away this week.

It would say that we're relaxed and confident about our approach to the hiring process, and confident that we'll have the right person in place. Although I was initially surprised that we weren't on the cusp of signing a new manager as soon as the season finished, it makes sense to see who the movers and shakers are because it broadens the talent pool. If we'd have been in a rush then we wouldn't have been able to have a meeting with Nuno Espirito Santo for example.
