Yeah this seems most likely to me. But that’s why we have to ensure the prospective manager is not just a glamour appointment but coming in as part of a project. It really is no good bringing a Nuno in & throwing a load of money at it, only for Mendes and himself to down tools on the eve of future transfer windows.

I know I’m in a minority when it comes to this but on the basis of what we’re supposedly setting out to do this summer, my 2 preferred candidates are absolutely the Championship managers. Preferably Ismaël for a number of reasons including how early Cooper is in his career. But I still think that despite the vitriol, Cooper could be a very good appointment for the club in our project to progress the club. He’s a highly rated young British manager who has an excellent record with youth and has done a very good job at his current employer.

I think there's a lot of logic in that approach.

If things go well then I see no reason why Cooper or Ishmael would be any more likely to be loyal to us if a bigger job comes along than a big name coach would be.

It's when things get tough (which they surely will from time to time) that we get the benefits of appointing Cooper or Ishamel.

Nuno, Benetiz et al can throw the towel in when they can't spend their way out of a corner at Palace, knowing they have enough standing in the game that failing at Palace won't count against them. They will tell the media that it's an impossible job with so little money, the media will agree because they are well-known managers, and they remain considered a top-level coach.

Cooper and Ishmael have no such safety net. If they fail at Palace they probably don't get another go at the top flight in England, or certainly not soon anyway. I like that about them, on top of the obvious strengths they have (making a little go a long way, youth development etc), they will have the hunger to establish themselves.

And moreover what people seem to be neglecting about Ismaël particularly is that his record at his 2 previous clubs is excellent. You really can’t understate his achievements. If people are turned off by the Premier League experience thing then fine. But if a manager of Ismaëls pedigree, playing the style of football he does, on the budget he does, getting the results he does, had Premier League experience - then he’d be out of our league as a candidate anyway.

When the dust has settled and the pundits and us fans have had their say.... it will be Dyche. I feel it in my water and so must now dash!!!!!
