We most certainly dodged a bullet. Gattuso is a Mendes client

He speaks fluent French, German, and English. What language were you thinking of?

I was actually asking whether he spoke the language, hence the question mark in brackets, but thanks for the intel.

Let's hope he can make sense of 'Sawf London Innit', which he may not have covered in school!

Well Parish did say that he was looking for a younger man

Why, is he fed up with Susannah?

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

There is too much B******S talked about managers if you have a decent DOF some good scouts and you have experience of different coaches and respect of the players that is all you need, make Scott Dann manager and bring Glenn Murray in as his assistant, job done

If it’s that easy how come Lampard (who ticked the boxes you refer to) failed, but Tuchel won the Champions League within a short space of time?

Where I don't agree with Lanzo, There could many more factors at work than just Tuchel being better than Lamps.- like the loads of players that were bought for him (with no defenders).
We'll never know that if Lampard was persisted with he could have hit the same heights.

What exactly do you mean when stating "doesn't know the league or players"? Elaborate on that specific statement.

If you know anything about the guy's track record, he's been managing for close to 30 years in 3 countries namely Switzerland, Germany and France.
Any manager that has chosen to manage in multiple countries over decades are obviously "students of the game" and would know of leagues beyond their immediate or previous places of occupation. In fact, our recently departed manager Mr Hodgson CBE would fit that description too, not least Mourinho as examples.

There is a certain mentality one has to have to want to venture your career abroad (not talking exclusively football here) and moreover to think a guy doesn't "know" the most watched league in the world
is not sensible deduction of reasoning.

In any case, his track record both in terms of player transfers and managing youth development (jude bellingham got significant game time under him) would actually be an asset to Palace in shrewd signings, especially with his more in-depth knowledge of both French and German football markets (would love to pick up another Kante or Mahrez bargain deal).

Not having Premier league experience is a bit funny when you consider how many managers have come into the Premier league without it and been either very successful of late (Tuchel, Pep, Klopp) or adapted pretty quickly to its demands having been novices to the league itself (Biesla, NES, Hassenhutl).

ALL managers that Palace could potentially look to appoint come with risks, so yes all things being equal you'd want one with Premier league experience but there's a significant risk difference in hiring Favre vs Cooper when it comes to that deficit in their respective CVs lol

FYI Favre does speak decent English (alongside his fluent German and French)

We're all patiently awaiting news of who our appointed manager will be, if it's Favre then I would think of it as a great appointment to support the rebuild, bring the youth into the side and evolve our style of play to attacking wing play built on defensive solidity over the course of at least 2-3 seasons efforts. BUT if not, so be it. Let's trust the board's judgement to get it right in the end hopefully.

I'm not anti-Favre, I'd be happy enough with him (as I would with most of the other apparent contenders). As you say though, all coaches have their downsides, and it seemed to me that nobody was acknowledging Favres, so I did.

To elaborate a bit, experience of the league and players can be very important. It's one thing to be a top student of the wider game, and another to already know exactly how you would get the best out of Benteke, Zaha and Eze (when fit) because you've had experience of managing against them a few times, so you've done detailed research on them, then tested your theories in practise. I'd imagine Dyche, or maybe even Howe, would know our best players inside out from setting up their Burnley or Bournemouth teams to stop them. For all his wider understanding, Favre would have to develop that level of detailed knowledge over time. Not fatal perhaps, but not preferable either.

Not understanding culture is potentially an important thing too. The coaches you list have all adapted well, but they've had hugely expensive squads of top-class players, which helps. Plus we can't forget the ones who went the other way. Scolari won the world cup with Brazil and was a tough, no-nonsense hero with the Portuguese national team - The country loved his style. That same style clashed and failed horribly at Chelsea - he just couldn't get the same cultural connection.

Felix Magath won the German Bundesliga three times with two different clubs, one being Wolfsburg who haven't got close before or since, but he is still talked about with a shake of the head at Fulham. His methods worked brilliantly in one place, but didn't translate - in fact they crashed and burned as Fulham went down.

Santini and Gross had great records in their respective leagues, but flopped at Spurs, with a failure to connect culturally being a big part of it.

In terms of knowing the club, I think that's vital. Villas-Boas was hugely successful at Porto, and on the face of it, he and Chelsea had agreed that he would come in and sweep away the old guard of players. Had he known the club better he would have realised that in fact the players hold the power, and that you need to take them with you along the way, slowly easing the big names out, or you'll be for the chop. I'd think a new Palace manager will need similar knowledge - Parish wants the youngsters brought through but he will sack a manager if we are anywhere near the relation zone. In fact, his longest serving manager (Roy) relied on experienced players to keep his job, and it worked. Will Favre understand the reality behind what Parish wants? Will he be able to manage upwards in a way which is effective specifically for Parish / Palace, and therefore low on drama? Harder to do if the club, chairman and DoF are all totally unknown quantities to you.

Finally, and whilst I repeat I would be happy with Favre on the face of things, I also repeat the concerns I aired when Nuno was in the running - if it seems too good to be true then it probably is. At his age he can't come to us and use us as a stepping stone, proving himself before going to a bigger job in two to three years, so he has to want to be here for it's own sake, to work at our (smaller) club, with lesser players, in the opposite end of the league than he has been used to. If he is happy to do that, I would ask him: Why? What is your motivation? If it's living in London, earning a fortune and experiencing the league, then it's a no thanks from me. We need the sleeves rolled up, and we rarely get it from those stepping down to our level, or at least not in the same way we get it from those stepping up. Human nature really.

Fabre, would be by far the the best choice for Palace, if compared to any name put forward yet.
He is an example of the modern multi league achiever, none of those put forward as of now come up to that in the same way as he does.
Just one problem, his wins average would put us firmly in the to ten, but can the club hand him a squad that could live up to his expectations , to maintain his winning average.?

That’s why Parish spends so much time in the salon and keeping his slender figure then.

I keep seeing Marco Silva's name on the wind and today I saw another source stating it is between him and Favre in terms of the foreign candidates. At first I thought I was imagining it when I started thinking about him the other day, but I'm starting to think it is not that leftfield given he has PL experience and is out of work. I am certainly not promoting him btw, I just have this feeling in my gut that he might be in the frame.
