I'm not saying he won't be improving our young players (I really hope he does!)
I'm not saying that he can't be the manager taking us to the next level (I really hope he does!)
what I'm saying is that I read already names of kids that have never even played in div. 2 that now will be in the 1st team (forgive me, you didn't write that for sure, but others have believe me...), free flowing attacking football now with this new manager.
Now, with no experience in the PL, with a team that need to be sorted out, do you really think (I'm not asking you, I talk in general) this guy comes in, takes a couple of kids and start playing attacking football?
If he's clever enough, and time will prove he is, until he can get the players he needs (and it could take time, we should know that already), he will do exactly what the previous manager did when he lost the Cabayes, the RLCs etc. without them being replaced, he will use a cautious approach, and will try to make us a team hard to break down. And we really should hope for that, because a different approach could take us to Europe or to the Championship, and we should know this already too (i.e. De Boer).
So, in my opinion, at least for some time, things won't be really different from before, that's why I said some people are going to be disappointed, not me for sure, but believe me some will be.
Surely the new manager will need some time to sort things out for his needs, but with an eye on keeping us up, and having a previous manager that in his 4 seasons got us at 44 49 43 44 points. He won't have an easy job doing better but some people already think he will easily have. I hope they're right.

So I think you're saying Evolution, not Revolution. now where have I heard that before

I posted yesterday quoting Wiki as saying Favre was in pole position for the Palace job.

His entry has now been updated and today it reads he 'is currently the manager of Premier League club Crystal Palace'.

Who are we to argue? I'm very happy to believe what it says on this occasion.

He has a big job to do, but his background in Germany will be a huge asset and his lack of PL experience will not hamper him. Certainly the pick of all the names associated with us during the selection process. Far better background than FdB too.

He'll give us plenty to cheer I'm sure.

Sounds like someone told you something, all you did was share it, then a load of the old farts got in a huff.

I think that you'll find that most of them are actually young farts

Am I the only one who thinks this isn't necessary a done deal yet? If it was agreed yesterday, why wasn't it signed yesterday?

Still expect that something will make it fall through or we'll be gazumped.

Don't believe it until it's officially announced.

I feel as, if this deal actually materializes, it would have been well worth the wait. Favre has everything we could ask for apart from previous PL experience in my opinion, and I believe that he might actually be keen on bringin one or two of our promising young eagles up to the first team. AND actually give them a few late game apperances, not just put them on the bench once in a blue moon.

So to summarise - Glad all over!

You're right of course fishy. A lot of us, me included, could be jumping the gun.

But I suspect that Steve is making sure he's dotted all the t's and crossed all the i's (as a boss of mine used to say - in all seriousness I should add) before making the announcement. The detail is probably the work permit still not come through.

Here's hoping!

What are you expecting to fall through? He’s agreed a 3 year deal at the club, subject to a work permit that he qualifies for. Theoretically, If Palace agrees terms yesterday, Favre could’ve got a work permit as early as today.

About as much chance as him not joining at this point as there is him resigning during pre-season training.

I will not be sure till I see Favre holding up the shirt. Wikipedia can be updated by anyone (if you know the way in), so that is not a guarantee that the 63-year-old has signed yet.

You may well be right Ivan. Things are unlikely to change overnight. The first step will be to see who he's able to bring in by way of transfers and loans. That will provide a clue to how he intends to move forward.

I agree with Spiderman that of the existing youth in our Academy/Development squads, only Hannam is likely to be ready to make the step up. Hopefully, Favre's experience with bringing on youth players will help speed up that process with some of the youngsters who may have what it takes to play PL football.

I'm just hoping Favre will be able to keep us in the PL and that as the season progresses we will get to see more entertaining football being played by Palace.

I agree. We were at the same stage with Nuno about 3 weeks ago and that somehow fell through. It will be done once officially announced. I'm only 75% confident at the moment.

Two questions:
1. Is there any problem getting him a work permit?
2. Does he speak English ?

Anybody know?

We weren’t at the same stage with Nuno. Nothing was agreed. The reason Alex Howell at the BBC, Michael Bridge at Sky & Fifield have all come out on this one is that they would’ve been leaked that a deal was agreed by the club. Neither Fifield nor Bridge (arguably the two closest journalists to the club) released anything with regards to Nuno until after talks collapsed.
