Two questions:
1. Is there any problem getting him a work permit?
2. Does he speak English ?

Anybody know?

1. He qualifies. Guess the only snag could be his coaching staff although this is considered as a formality by the club.
2. A little bit: [Link]

I agree. We were at the same stage with Nuno about 3 weeks ago and that somehow fell through. It will be done once officially announced. I'm only 75% confident at the moment.

Sounds like we're a lot closer than we were with Nuno. not sure he fully agreed terms - which is what apparently Favre has done. Delay is waiting work Permit only(if reports are to be believed), which Nuno wouldn't have had to do.
If it was at the same Stage Nuno would already be our Manager.

Well - if this comes off it is excellent news!
In missing out on who we did want it seems that we have stumbled on to an all round better solution.
My hat will soon be eaten!

I feel as, if this deal actually materializes, it would have been well worth the wait. Favre has everything we could ask for apart from previous PL experience in my opinion, and I believe that he might actually be keen on bringin one or two of our promising young eagles up to the first team. AND actually give them a few late game apperances, not just put them on the bench once in a blue moon.

So to summarise - Glad all over!

During his 4 years, Roy gave 3 academy players their Premier League debuts - can you name me a single manager in the Premier League who, in the same period of time, gave debuts to more players from their academy?

Favre’s links to young players are unquestioned. But Roy has gone now & we don’t really need to continue with these insulting and mostly entirely inaccurate caricatures of him as a manager.

I'm not saying he won't be improving our young players (I really hope he does!)
I'm not saying that he can't be the manager taking us to the next level (I really hope he does!)
what I'm saying is that I read already names of kids that have never even played in div. 2 that now will be in the 1st team (forgive me, you didn't write that for sure, but others have believe me...), free flowing attacking football now with this new manager.
Now, with no experience in the PL, with a team that need to be sorted out, do you really think (I'm not asking you, I talk in general) this guy comes in, takes a couple of kids and start playing attacking football?
If he's clever enough, and time will prove he is, until he can get the players he needs (and it could take time, we should know that already), he will do exactly what the previous manager did when he lost the Cabayes, the RLCs etc. without them being replaced, he will use a cautious approach, and will try to make us a team hard to break down. And we really should hope for that, because a different approach could take us to Europe or to the Championship, and we should know this already too (i.e. De Boer).
So, in my opinion, at least for some time, things won't be really different from before, that's why I said some people are going to be disappointed, not me for sure, but believe me some will be.
Surely the new manager will need some time to sort things out for his needs, but with an eye on keeping us up, and having a previous manager that in his 4 seasons got us at 44 49 43 44 points. He won't have an easy job doing better but some people already think he will easily have. I hope they're right.

You make some good realistic points. Favre’s record speaks for its self, and if the club can live up to the man , then he will be the right man. Every squad of players has its limits no matter who manages that squad. And all we have right now is a very good manager almost in the bag.
The team is a completely different matter. To start with unless some contracts are renewed we barely have a team. But that aside , we need some very decent signings if we are going to give Favre, a squad he has been used to working with ,and with quiet a lot of success.
We need to sign some more young talent, such as Eze,
if it’s a young squad capable of achieving we are looking for, and the fact we are employing Favre, would suggest we are. The present crop of home grown youngsters are very promising but still a little short of being good enough to give Favre, enough to take the first team forward. We can only hope that the acquisition of Favre, is mirrored in the signings that are made in this window.

I think that the post your responding to is largely referring to the times that he repeatedly invited the academy stars onto the bench but never gave them any game time - even after point where we were safe from relegation.
For all his good points (and there were many) playing youngsters for the sake of the future of the club was not one of them. The 2 I can think of (must be an attacker he played whose name evades me) were Played out of necessity, rather than any kind of forward thinking.

This is just an excuse fans have used who are desperate to cling onto something to beat him over the head with, though. He gave 3 academy players their Premier League debuts in not even 4 full seasons at the club. One of them is now a key player for Manchester United , another is an established Premier League player. For a club in the position we are in, that’s some achievement btw. As I mentioned in the other post, I invite you to name me a single manager in the Premier League who did more with their academy players during the same period Roy was manager at the club. If there isn’t one (and there isn’t) it’s frankly nonsense to suggest he didn’t do well with the academy.

What are you expecting to fall through? He’s agreed a 3 year deal at the club, subject to a work permit that he qualifies for. Theoretically, If Palace agrees terms yesterday, Favre could’ve got a work permit as early as today.

About as much chance as him not joining at this point as there is him resigning during pre-season training.

To obtain a work permit he must have a sponsor. I suspect contracts have been signed, subject to work permit. There will be no problem he meets the criteria which the new Wolves manager did not but still got one.

You´ve read and understood my comment correctly. In addition to our own players, I was rather dissapointed with the players that were brought in under Roys reign and barely given any chances, this season it would be Mateta who I would have loved to see more of.

I would also like to state that Roy has been nothing but good to us, managing to keep us on safe ground most of the time since the sacking of FdB, but despite him bringing this comfortabel feeling of safety to the club, I never felt like there was any true future hope for us to climb higher up the ranks, let alone, staying up with an aging squad with few to none of our youngsters truly beeing supported or believed in.

I'd wager Jurgen Klopp has given a fair few their PL debuts - he pretty much played a whole academy team in the cup(s), be surprised if none of them got into the first team at some point. But without hours of research, I have no idea if that - or your - statement is true.

as for the Rest? only Klopp, Guardiola, Santo and Dyche had had 1 job in the PL over the same period, so it's a bit of a pointless comparison imho.
But how many has Dyche blooded in that time? probably a few too.

An excellent post. Perfectly clear. Our kids must exhibit hitherto unproven ability. They may. We shouldn't count on it.
