Yes true and hopefully in a couple of years they may come good. We don’t seem to have a Mason Mount or Tammy Abraham yet there though, who have a year or so experience loaned out in the championship.

Hopefully whoever comes in will give them some game time, but I think we are a couple of years away from that at the moment.

Was AWB 'loaned' out before he got thrust into the 1st team, was Wilf? How do you know we have'nt got a MM or TA in our midst, have you watched them & i dont mean for just 1 game, i & a few others have & we like what we see. You are tho correct in saying that the way our current set-up is, it will be quite a few years before any of the kids get a chance.

At least Hannam & Rak-Sakyi are being picked for the matchday squads, so, there is hope.

The only two I would consider are Howe and Dyche. Both have managed lower premier league teams with some success for a period of time. Lampard had one year at Derby with limited success to take over at Chelsea with lots of resources. Those talking about youngsters he’ll bring through should realise that we don’t have the same quality of youngsters that Chelsea do.

Would be a massive gamble and one I hope Parish doesn’t make. If we were to go down with Dyche or Howe I would also have more confidence in them bringing us back up as they have managed at that level for more than a year as well. They are two solid credible candidates and probably as good as we can get.

That's the logical criteria to apply isn't it? I think some of the calls for a massive overhaul and change of direction are unrealistic - we will continue to have a lower mid table budget no matter who is in charge, and that's the defining feature of the club.

Whilst we may not have the quality of u21 players Chelsea were able to call on, the hope is that our u18s will be comparable with most, and though we might have to wait to see them in the first team, and though it would be highly unusual for more than two to be good enough, bringing through more young players does seem to be part of the business plan.

Whether that needs to be reflected in the managers job description or previous experience is another matter. For me, all the club needs to do is release more senior players than it signs (easy enough this summer), explain to any prospective manager for next season (including Roy if he's still keen) that this is a deliberate strategy (or the best we can do), and ask each candidate how they would integrate academy players. It's not the be all and end all, but is one obvious interview question alongside many others.

I would love to see some of the youngsters come through and of course at Chelsea they almost have to be loaned out to have a chance. I can remember all the ‘Team of the 80’s’ excitement when we have a excellent bunch of youngsters come through at the same time.

Great to see the under 18’s doing so well and i hope a few of them do get first team experience.

It’s tough trying to keep a lower premier league team in the division and Roy seems to have done this with ease. Even if over the last year there has been some really turgid football.

I favour Howe and Dyche as they are the most experienced at this. Lampard is more of a risk in my opinion.

Absolutely agree with everything you have said.

It’s got to be a gradual change.

Have you actually watched the development squad playing?

If so who do you think is ready for the Premier League?

With our academy status and better quality under 18s we might have some ready for the Premier League in two or three years time but we need to still be in the top division at that time and if we blood youngsters now we probably won't be

Actually ME I do agree with your timeline on that. However, we aren't looking for a whole squad of youth to come through immediately. We are looking for one or two to come through initially and get noticed - by other youth or then they'll more hope. Would you have said Mitchell was ready, or AWB or even Wilf? Possibly, but not until you see them face PL opposition and then you can know for sure.

Also, we have unearthed gems before, why do people think that we won't again? It isn't only about who we have got, but what we can do with them. I think Jody Morris could have a key role to play with a lot of our squad.

With regard to Lampard, the question is how much has he learned from the managerial experience he has had to date? It could be that he is a quick learner will will rectify where he has gone wrong before.

Alternatively, he just may not be Premier League managerial material.

That would be the chance we would have to take.

BUT how many of their youngsters (U18s) are already out on loan in the lower divisions? Our senior U23s have struggled for game time in the lower leagues since January.

I have no idea, I was just replying to Fish Mittens post. I agree about our U23's tho, But, what I will say is, their season has been disrupted by 1st teamers & U18's being drafted in for various reasons. So, IMO, you cannot compare.

Can't see Roy taking a job that does not involve first team coaching and team selection, or, a new manager agreeing to have someone else in a position to second guess them.

Not sure what job Roy would want that would be useful to the club in real terms.
