Bullitt is on TV tonight. It's always promoted for having one of the greatest car chases ever filmed. I thought so too when I first saw it in the cinema. That rumbling V8 of McQueen's Mustang. The way he fastened his seat belt, before they were compulsory, was a sure sign we were in for a wild ride. The way his car showed up in the rear view mirror of the Dodge Charger that was chasing him a moment before. Classic stuff. I've watched this film many times since and I'm not so sure about the hype any more. Watch out for the same green VW pottering about in different scenes and there are at least two occasions when the cars are out of control and the scenes are cut into a different shot altogether. Picky? Probably. It's still a good watch. But, it was one of the first chases filmed like this and has been copied many times since. Each one trying to outdo the last. I like the chase in Ronin - it's long but I find it heart in the mouth realistic. What's your favourite movie car chase?
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

French connection hands down. Not sure if true but done without NYC consent and many participants regular road users. Never get away with it now.
