Cahill will be nearly 36 at the start of next season.
But , going forward, i do not trust his long-term health & fitness for a whole season. We urgently need to find a 24 year old that can take his place. Wonderful servant, 2 seasons?

I've watched the youngsters a lot this season. Whilst some of the U18s look very promising, that is all they are at present IMO. Not ready for a PL baptism just yet. The U23s are generally a less exciting bunch and the more senior ones have hardly covered themselves in glory in their loans out to League 1, League 2 and National league teams, so not ready for PL either and I suspect most of the U23s will end up either like Ryan Inniss, plying their trade in the lower leagues, or in non-league football. The more promising U23s are among those who joined us last summer when we were granted Categary 1 status.

I do agree with your point - most of our team are past their SBD.

We have heard that select developing players have been invited to train with the senior squad. We know that a manager has to keep senior players motivated. One way of giving young players senior game time is to loan them - also loans do possibly bring in income, but I doubt whether our developing loaned players are fully off the CPFC Payroll when away from South London. Sadly the loyalty of receiving managers to their contracted player means that loaned players can be rare starters. Senior players are given "fitness check" starts in U23 matches. Wayne Rooney was given minutes of senior match time in his early career. A substitute can be substituted. Could a returning senior player (Jimmy Mac, Marmadue, James Tompkins be given just thirty minutes or forty minutes before coming off with the opportunity available to substitute the young player should he show too many signs of sinking? We know that playing with ten men or caring for a developing player can focus senior player minds. Go on Roy - show that you can still use new talent well - as you did when England Manager.
