Ftr, players do get match fees, bonus incentives and accumulating appearance pay outs. And while their weekly wages dwarf such payments, many are genuinely pee'd off to miss out. Much too much stall is given to it being all about pride.

Makes sense as it would be a good plan for next season but there is still a question mark over the manager's position. Two seasons ago Roy's end of season chat was about securing league positions, last season for most of the presumption we fell off a cliff, hence no look at new areas of the team. Yesterday he praised both teams for giving it a go as they had nothing to really play for !?! Little odd as we needed to get the points to be mathematically safe, so who knows what is going on in his head.

Hodgson made it very clear post-Sheff U that the most we can expect is one or two tweaks so as to give some players a rest but no wholesale changes and no giving a player a game for the sake of it. He was adamant about putting out a competitive team for each of the remaining games. He is right to say that. This is professional sport and the integrity of the league demands that clubs put out a team they think can get a result. indeed...we were absolutely livid when pompey didnt try against wba and we went down, i wouldn't want us to do the same to a team potentially qualifying for europe. however, that said i expect to see mitchell play all 4 remaining games as its clear pva is off, and i think we should start mateta over benteke to give him a run of games, harsh to drop benteke but mateta needs a decent chance.

Would really like to see Mitchell keep his place and Mateta start, probably in place of Benteke. I'm also impressed by what I've seen of Omilabu in the under 18s. Scored 20 goals this season. Maybe a tad early for him, but now we've got nothing to lose, why not.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Roy's negative approach to younger players is a reason good enough to change the gaffer.

Hodgson is a very experienced and knowledgeable manager and IMO will play youngsters when they are ready to make the huge leap to PL football. Have a listen some time to Andros's interview. he had some NINE loan spells at Spurs before he made the 1st team squad, several of them at Championship clubs and at least 1 at another PL club. Our players out on loan at lower league clubs struggle to get 1st team minutes. I can't see Hodgson playing the kids in the remaining 4 games and rightly so IMO. Now we are mathematically safe, what's the point in playing those out of contract and unlikely to stay. Ie. PVA, Benteke. Also, no point in taking up a space on bench either.

There is also the little matter of money for each position in the table so they are unlikely to make many changes.

You give fringe players and kids a run out, that taste, that desire will be burning for next year.. I would say even if we lose them all, give those a chance to taste it.
