When he runs with the ball, Eze is sublime. It's great to see him float past defenders like a feather. But a downside is that he does none of the heavy lifting in midfield when we're under the cosh. Because he is either unable or willing to tackle (he just dangles out a leg, risking injury and/or a card), his midfield challenges are invariably just tissue paper. Yesterday, one of his flimsy efforts to win the ball gave away a needless free kick just outside our penalty area in a central position. It is significant that, after being selected to start a match, he has often been subbed. I hope he can become a more complete player, but if he hasn't learned how to tackle by now, will he ever?
Hasn't got to get involved when playing with better squads as will be the case when we see him go.

In view of how he's performed so far I'd like to think SP & Co renegotiate the contract next year & give his wage a boost whilst inputing a minimum sale clause to hopefully put off any potential interest, we'd been after him long enough, to cash in so soon would be crazy.

Anybody know if we gave QPR a sell on fee included in the transfer when we signed him ?

Well, whatever happens I'm sure we can expect a lowball offer from Arsenal some time in the near future. And yes, we have a hefty 20% sell-on clause for him, which much like Zaha and his United sell-on clause, means we have to sell for a seriously high amount for it to be worth it for us.

That Eze is hugely talented is not in doubt. But he's still very much ' work in progress ' at Premier League level. He's the pundits darling at the moment, but before everyone gets too carried away, he needs to be playing like he did on Saturday against the top teams. Lots more to come from him. If the club rebuild around him successfully, he can be ours for another few years yet.

He's only moved into the middle in the last few games having been adjusting to the PL on the left. Even though we lost the two previous games it was notable how much more of an influence he was having in the middle in a free role. What I think people need to accept is that he is never going to be good at defending, just as Fernandes isn't at United. Providing we can find a way of accommodating that then he'll thrive next season. More savvy teams/managers will do as they do to Zaha though and try and kick him out the game. Sheffield Utd gave him so much space they did make it relatively easy for him, even if he did do well to take advantage of it. Hopefully he leaves Ward-Prowse on his arse tomorrow night. As to whether we'd sell him it would likely need an offer north of 50/60 million and at this stage he hasn't proven he's worth that, especially given the finances of clubs at present.

Many (including the club I'd guess) dislike the fact that we have had a team with very few saleable assets for some time now, but when I see a thread like this it reminds me of the negatives of going too far the other way. I don't want Palace to be a shop window. I want it to be a football club. I want the players there to see it as their job to get us to be as good as we can be as a consequence of their commitment, not to be a stepping stone. I get that it is a job for them and that we all have aspirations, but the modern age appears full to bursting with arseholes who do just enough to get themselves on the next rung of the ladder without actually improving the place they work, and I could do without seeing my team full of them too. Very few clubs have done well out of the 'shop window' model. Are Southampton any better off now that they've sold some of the worlds best players to bigger clubs? Not that I can see. Did West Ham get anything out of selling off a generation of stellar talent? Yeah, relegated. Part of me would take a few 27-28 year old top flight journeymen ahead of some talented kid we are trying to sign who is being told that he'll only have to do two years at Palace before he can get his big move. I just hope Eze is very clear that he has a lot to do here, both to become a good top-flight player, and also to get us to a better place than we were when he arrived. Showing great class,a truly prodigious talent showing maturity beyond his years, rather than than childish, petulant behaviour often shown by his fellow striker, who has recently been left in the shade.

It's even worse for the three relegated clubs with the vultures hovering over everyone worth pinching

The issue I suppose is the extent to which a club might choose to embrace its lowly status. We have been spared the feeling of being a stepping stone by and large, in that we've not had too many sellable players. If we turn that on its head and promote a few u18s and snap up one or two better young championship players (which is what many would like us to do), then we should recognise the difference between putting together a core of good young players so they can grow into a better team for Palace than we would otherwise have (which would be great), as opposed to simply facilitating the ambitions of young footballers and their agents without any longer-term benefits for us. Eze will inevitably be sold to a 'bigger club'. That's just the nature of the business. Probably Tottenham, in two seasons' time. Hopefully, by then, he'll have put in some match-winning performances for us.
