I think Henderson is out of contract as his was a 1 year extension.

We need 3 goalkeepers in first team squad and They will be Guita and Butland plus possibly one of u23 goalkeepers

Right back Both Ward and Clyne may be kept as Ferguson has not returned from injury.

Left Back Mitchell and Let PVA go

Central Defender Are any of U23 ready? Sakho we can not afford so he will go. Dann may go to but he could be kept as a fairly cheap backup. Cahill will wait until he sees who manager is

Midfield is where age is showing McCarthy may stay if we decide to sell Luka which I think is possible. The U23 have a few promising midfielders but are they ready to be regulars.

Attacking Midfielders - Townsend is still EPL quality on his day and we need some backup.

Strikers - The fact is that none of our strikers have impressed but is this because our service is so poor. Wickham and Bats to go. Benteke to stay and get another striker who challenges for his place to push him

Hodgson has said that Fergusson is training now and will train fully for this last week and then focus on having a full pre-season as there was no point risking him this season with so little of it to go. Consequently, we may well see Clyne let go.

We NEED at least 1, preferably 2 younger CBs otherwise we won't be able to press higher up the pitch next season.

Midfield needs strengthening.

As for strikers, if we keep Mateta on loan and get Benteke to stay on lower wages, then with Ayew in the wings we can survive without having to fork out for another striker.

You've made good points about the use of loans.

I'd rather we buy the CBs and properly sort that area out - everything seems to indicate that defence is where the clear out will happen. We're in a position to set a partnership for the next few years with Tomkins/Cahill on hand to help it bed in and I'd rather we just do that well.

The Gallacher chat isn't going away and he sounds a good purchase in a position of need at a good price.

We can use Zaha up top if needed, which is where I'd rather we use loans on the attacking players - the RLCs, Minamino, Nelson, Nketiah types of the world where buying an impact player is big £££ (and where their impact will be zero if we can't sort out the defence and play higher).

26th January 2010 - Enter Administration
2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

According to the Athletic PVA is on his way, Sakho, McCarthy, Hennessey and Wickham are on their way too. Bats is heading back. Cahill will get a new one year deal, Ward and Dann are discussing reduced terms.

Before you dismiss that out of hand, a 17yo & an 18yo both made their debuts & scored for their respective clubs in the EPL, our very own Mitchell also scored his 1st EPL goal for us, & he was playing for the U23's last season.

We have an exciting crop of youngsters in the U23's & the U18's, dont get me wrong, as a few others who watch their games have noted, they dont think they are ready for 1st team duties(yet), BUT, if you dont give them a go, how will anybody know?

I hear what you say but whilst it might be a simple matter to give one or perhaps even two youngsters a try out we can't rely on a whole squad of them to keep us in the top division.

You of all people might have a reasonable idea of which youngsters might make it in the first team next season and I'm happy to listen to your opinion

I do think we could simply replace the outgoing Wickham with say Omilabu in the squad. Plus he seems a different style of player to Bentenke, Ayew and Mateta. Rak-Sakyi currently has the most noise around him, so it'll be interesting to see how he gets on in pre-season if he plays. Both AWB and Mitchell got their opportunities after performing well in pre-season. The standard at U18 and U23 level is so far off the PL that I imagine it is really hard to know how players will get on until they play. If you listen to coaches and former players, a lot seems to be about temperament and personality as to whether players succeed, however talented they may be.

The future certainly seems exciting anyway with the current crop of youngsters. I'd love to see us take on the German model and blood youngsters early and in doing so be able to attract the best young talent in the country. Whether that is actually feasible or not is a whole other matter!

That is pretty much how I would have liked it.

BTW the bile spewed at Ward and Dann is unfair. Neither expected to play much this season but have stepped up to the best of their ability. To spend a great deal to replace perfectly good second XI players is simply daft.

And before you attack their ability, I would also like to see back-up players warming our bench who are of top half quality. But then we don't all have the financial backing of Man City do we? Even Liverpool struggled with their support players when their first choices got crock.

I agree with much of the post, but I seem to recall that AWB was given the nod (v manure ironically) as he was the last RB standing.

We have no idea whether Ferguson is good enough for the Premier League

I managed to find it. It was a defeat to Spurs. Look at that squad and bench - yikes! [Link]

How many of the German clubs adopt this model? (I don't know). Is it just the big boys who can afford to give youngsters the time needed to adapt?

What has been noticeable in the many U23 and U18 games I've watched this season (and it was very evident last night as well) is how often the youngsters (of all teams) struggle with cramp etc. after the hour mark. It's easy to forget that many of the youngsters are still developing physically (obviously the U18s more so than the U23s) and whilst they may have the talent and skill for consideration for the first team may not be ready physically to make that step. You get exceptions, of course - Rooney and Whiteside come to mind. Guardiola has been very careful with Foden's exposure over recent years and look at the benefits now!

As for our youngsters who might be ready for the 1st team, I like Hannam. He's a modern day full back who can play as a wing back if needed and I thought he was good again last night down the left when he came on in the second half. He's featured on the 1st team bench several times when Mitchell was injured recently.

I wholeheartedly agree with the highlighted bit.

As fo who i would consider to be given a chance in the 1st team, hmmm, tricky one that.

Hannam, Rak-Sakyi, Omilabu, Rich-Baghuelou, Webber(GK), Banks, Spence, Mathews, O'Brien & Street, could all push for being involved in & around the 1st team for next season.

You also have the likes of Adaramola, Wells-Morrison, Mooney, Gordon, Cadogan & Akinwale pushing for inclusion to the U23's & 1 or 2 of them could push to be included with the 1st team, training or on the bench.

All those ive mentioned could/would do well to be included in cup games that our (current) 1st team dont like. This is all subjective, open for debate & just MY opinions.
