I think you'll find if the medical staff at the club pass a player as fit for selection then it is then the managers decision wether to play him or not. Highly paid footballers forfeit the right to " give it a miss".

Yes, but Hodgson said only yesterday that it was most unlikely Jimmy Mac would be back this season. Although the player may become technically fit to play for the Liverpool game, it may have been agreed that the sensible thing would be to let him focus on being ready for next season given his age and the length of his recent injury absence. It's not like we need to risk him for the points etc.

he's been a great servant, the fact we miss him so much reveals the paucity of our midfield, still puts in a shift, but he's past it.

i think you'll find that medical staff take the players opinion quite seriously when they assess them.
Does that hurt? Player says yes or no.
A player who has been out of action for a few months will almost certainly not be risked in a dead rubber game. It appears the management, medical staff and Macca have already had the discussion.

I admit we have missed him more than I thought. No way can he play as many games as he has in the past but would be very valuable squad player and would help any young players

Yes, he's been a good 'servant' (odd word: these are very well paid servants).
Lots of effort.
Lots of fouls conceded.
He's not the future.
Squad player at best.

But if he’s past it what category would you put Riedewald in? Never got going category?

Jimmy Mc has been a major loss for us this season. I’m nearly sure I read that last season he committed the most fouls in the division with the least bookings. He is great at breaking up play.

'MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh no!'

Please come back, Jimmy Mac.

There is a big difference in being fit and being match fit.

Mc,Arthur, has been brilliant for us over the period he has been here. But at 34 going forward he can’t be the future, even though I think his contract doesn’t end just yet. His situation is part of Palaces most pressing dilemma , as with other parts of the team we haven’t been. looking to replace his ageing legs before he becomes no longer able to be effective throughout 90 minutes, and then only in some form of rotation.
It’s hard to know what the club will do because the whole squad barring one or two , is on or beyond not only it’s sell by date but it’s use by date. It’s not a matter of disrespect to any of our lads, but old Father Time will always take its toll. And that is a fact that is going to prove a major headache for Parish, and Co.
