The irony this season being that our strengths (supposedly) this season have failed us, we have conceded 61 goals! Meanwhile we have attacking options as evidenced against Villa that haven't been utilised fully, I can think of numerous games where our shots on target ratio has been extremely poor, mainly due to the over emphasis on defence. For example, Roy is on record saying he prefers Benteke because of his defensive work! If Roy isn't here next season I hope the new manager can find that elusive balance.

True we have conceded a lot this year. But is it any surprise when you look at the injuries suffered by Tomkins, Cahill , Dann plus their age. A solid back four that plays together week in week out is the only way to reduce goals conceded. Guaita Ward Tomkins Cahill Mitchell for 38 games, but it will never happen now because 3 of them aren't fit enough. We need younger quality players, not a change of manager.

From my own point of view, the management plays to our strenghths to get the 40 points we need every year, and have done so for the last 4 years. Give Roy Raheem Sterling, Kanté, Van Dyke then he would adapt and play differently. We havent got the calibre of those players. Just give Roy better younger players and no management change is needed. Spend it on new players instead.Yes Roy cant go on forever, sadly, but just because there are two managers with promise available now it doesn't mean it's the last chance saloon. There will always be managers coming and going so other candidates will present themselves.
___

Now you see, I don't think that he would (or at least not massively differently). I think he uses the same methods regardless. That's why he had had a hard time getting Liverpool and England to shine - his methods are better suited to smaller clubs and nations.

My point about Roy has always been twofold:

1. I'm not necessarily pro-Roy, just anti the worst of the anti-Roy nonsense. That ends up leading me to challenge a lot of what is said about him, and perhaps to defend him more than I can remember defending any other Palace manager.

2. The way Roy naturally operates has been, is, and will likely remain, the best fit for a club our size. If we have suddenly got access to a far better squad than we have had in recent years then fine, get a different manager in - I reckon Howe or Lampard actually would play better football than Roy if all three were given the same top ten squad - but until we have a top ten squad we need the right man for the job, which we probably already have.

Totally without respect.

Whatever your thoughts on his abilities, that comment is just without class and uncalled for.

I consider Roy, whatever else he isn't, to be a true gentleman.

You could learn a lesson there.

Could not agree more, I'm truly grateful to Roy for keeping in this league and earning a huge income for the club with a fairly limited squad of players. This just shows what a quality manager and coach he is!

Roy hasn't Lost it. far from it.

Still think that this squad isn't one that is best placed to be handed over to a different Man for a major overhaul.. They rarely work, especially when the new manager is part of that overhaul.

What is required is one more decent Summer, (it's a short one, remember, thanks to the Euros - that means a shorter pre-season) a couple of shrewd signings(like last summer) and RH for another year to get the squad into a state whereby it can be taken on without the need for an overhaul seems to be the best course of actions from where I'm sitting.

If that means more negative tactics, then so be it. Although, that's not necessarily what is going to happen. At some points this season RH tried to be more expansive/attacking, only for it to backfire horribly(probably as we have aging and injured defenders). This summers job: Sort out the reason for that backfire.

"It was a Team effort, I guess it took all players working together to lose this one"

It was stated on back of the nest that Roy only had 19 available and asked Hen as he has been training well if he wanted to be part of the squad for the match. The youngsters are busy/ just played and who knows what the procedure is on bubbles etc within the club.
Loyal respectful and a nice touch. That’s all it was I think.

Our defending has been poor this year, and we do look vulnerable. Whilst injuries have definitely had an impact and Roy must take some of the blame, you can't blame the manager for everything - Villa's 2nd goal was a complete joke. When the ball was headed up into the air (mistake 1) Cahill then was so worried about Watkins he didn't even jump (mistake 2) and for some bizarre reason Ward decided to leave his man and try and help Cahill out (mistake 3).
So a standing Watkins managed to head it backwards across goal to an unmarked colleague 6 yards out to finish with ease.

Joke defending due to 3 individual errors

Defences operate as a unit, knowing what your fellow defenders are going to do. But Every week there are 1 or 2 changes. Even the goalkeeper this week ! Unless you have continuity you will always get the kind of mistakes you describe. Will we have the same defence v the Arse ? I'd bet my balls the answer is no.

Nope. That said, they will likely be Clyne Tomkins Cahill and Mitchell. Not a bad back 4. Trouble is, they have not played together... so you will not see the benefit until few games in. Not what you want to hear with only 2 games left!

Individual mistakes have nothing to do changes in personal. They train together too, so it's not like they are playing with strangers.

The change in goalie clearly had no impact on either goal
