Since the Wolves game. We've picked up 16 points playing 4-5-1/4-3-3. The other 5 came from 4-4-2.

A positive team selection followed by a really good performance. The link up between Eze and Zaha is really coming on, we got Tompkins out on the pitch, got 90 out of Schlupp and thoroughly deserved the win. Special mention to Mitchell. Excellent assist, winning goal and decent all round performance. He might not be one that the big boys want to spend £50m on, but he's good enough to do OK in this league, and that's one less player we need to buy. Three more of them will help enormously. You have to hope that the two excellent fullbacks playing for the youngsters can step up sooner rather than later.

A thoroughly entertaining game which is what you'd hope for when there is no pressure on either team. Eze ran the show for us and Zaha had a fire in his belly. Great to see Mitchell get a goal. Townsend worked his socks off and Big Ben keeps ticking over with yet another goal. Cahill much better than Dann. On the downside we once again look so exposed down our right which Villa constantly targeted. Kouyate constantly out of position and Ward struggling. When Tomkins came on and Cheikh moved into midfield we suddenly looked more solid and less exposed. McCarthy not really any better than Luka and possibly even worse, although his lack of game time might be to account. He should have closed McGinn down for the first goal the way Andros closed a shot down in the second half - i.e. throwing himself at the ball as if his life depended on it. As with the Saints game, it is hard to read too much into these games as this is not how Roy would have set us up if we were still playing for something other than placings; however, what it does show is that in Eze and Wilf we have a partnership which can still prise open the best defences. If Eze keeps developing and building his confidence then next season he is going to shine even brighter.

As soon as I saw the team sheet it filled me with optimism. It’s not working with Luka and Jairo in the middle, too slow and lightweight. Also Ayew can only play in Benteke’s position so one has to be left out and it certainly can’t be Benteke at the moment. Terrific attacking intent and fluid football today, I’m well pleased, well done Palace!!!

I'd be interested in any views on the effect on our team and our play of Luka's non-selection - good, bad or neither? Should he be brought back? (I saw none of the game.) I like Mccarthy but he's physically shot unfortunately. If he could get a run of games that might change, but he never can. Kouyate playing in that position gives us a lot more legs. He covers ground at pace, which is essential in allowing others to get forward and to protect the centre backs. Lukas use of the ball can be better than kouyates, but only rarely and not by much. My only concern is that whilst Kouyate has managed more or less to play the whole season as a centre back, he tends to pick up more knocks in midfield, and we need him fit all the time if only to cover the centre back positions.
