Announcing he's jumping ship before the crowd turns on him against Arsenal.

Typical cowardice by Teflon Roy.

Great news for football in England.

Return to the dark place you crawled out from

Inevitable I suppose but I am glad he left us with his head held high....
An absolute gent, honest and down to earth..
Personally I feel a bit sad and can only like all palace fans wish him a peaceful happy retirement and the best for him and his families future...
Good luck Mr Hodgson your management career has been amazing and I imagine that football fans from Sweden to Switzerland... From England to Italy and beyond will be wishing you all the very very best..
Best wishes to you sir...

Interestingly, the announcement says nothing about retirement. I suspect he might already have something else lined up which would explain the Ray Lewington decision as well.
Both will be very much missed; they have done an excellent job in my view.

Spurs ?

They would not have to pay any compensation and with Harry Kane leaving, they will be just another mid-table club :-)

Now that you've got what you wanted, would it be unreasonable to ask you to take a large dose of STFU?

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Whoever wrote the career profile on the official site should be congratulated.

IMO it was time for Roy to depart partly, as already mentioned, before things went sour. No need to do a Wenger or indeed an Alladyce. Partly because come what may this close season will determine Palace's future for several seasons. Which players will stay, go and arrive. Anyone's guess.

Who will be manager? Seemingly Lampard or Howe. But that is one for the bookies.

I hope all will be well; as I just hope the phrase "be careful what you wish for" doesn't come and bite us all on the legs!

Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time!

Good luck Roy now enjoy your retirement.

As for the next Palace manager I hope it's not Frank but whoever it is needs funds to rebuild the team.

Although it is probably not a shock it does tinge me with sadness. As a manager you want someone who is good to their word respectful and honorable and Roy has these traits in abundance. I hope we find a manager with these qualities together with Roy's football knowledge. There are plenty of manager's who might be good in the short term but not sure there are many who are capable of doing 4 years at one club in the premiership and been successful in their objectives on a tight budget. We will miss him and Ray Lewington.

A stabilising force after all the journeymen who came before him. Thanks tomRoy for his experience and contribution and enjoy a well earned retirement. Forever Palace!

Prick.. Maybe if you make it through puberty and emerge an adult you will understand that Hodgson has done a good job at Palace and given us the chance to progress.
