Cahill, Ward, Townsend and Mccarthy will get new deals. the rest will go, which will mean we will have to make up about 8 extra players to be signed and included. The under 23's don't have to be included in the 25 if they are only aged 21 after January 2021 i think it is

You didn't say they haven't!

I think ward will get a new deal. Townsend if he wants one. Ward says he wants. Townsend (who cannot shut up) can't decide and apparently has offers (agent leverage?)

Thus one likely to stay the other possibly out of our hands???

Cahill has another year for me if fit.

It was implicit. It wasn't necessary.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

That's my understanding as well. Of course we don't HAVE TO have a full first team squad of 25 players who are over 21. In other words we shouldn't simply bring players in to make up the numbers. We need to fill the essential gaps (e.g. CB and midfield) with quality additions and promote those of the U23s deemed ready to start making the transition from the development squad to the PL.

I agree with keeping Cahill, Ward and Townsend all as back-up/mentors to younger recruits. I don't agree with McCarhy, as he is too slow and injury prone and we will have back up from McArthur and Milo and we need to add some young energy/dynamism to our midfield.

There 7 on the list who actually play:

Ward
Clyne
Cahill
Dann
PVA
Mcarthy
Townsend

I'd keep Ward, possibly Clyne, Cahill and Townsend. We would then only need to replace three, which is doable.

Of course, the loss of Eze will need to be addressed. That's four.

If Zaha goes then we need five, but will have more money (or exchange players).
