You recognise that political parties give them get them for cronyism, but fail to comprehend that Hodgson is a part of the footballing establishment that have failed this country time after time purely so they could feather their own nest.

Mercer, Revie, Greenwood, Taylor all got honours despite failing deliver.

McLaren will get one next

They (and Roy) all did a lot more than Southgate did for his gong, which was to lose 3 out of 7 matches at one World Cup.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Southgate got to a semi-final.

But I'd conceded that based on one tournament question marks over the merit of the awards still remain.

Why the hell did they give one to him? He left England for more money....must have been before.

Usually the only managers who get the job are 'yes' men to the FA.

It's a crime that they didn't give the job to Clough.

Mods, I've just seen the other thread. Needs putting together.

Not done so as so many people who post in PT never, ever come over to N&P thread, so have left them to enjoy their own.

An unusually well-merited gong for Roy, after all he is not a tory donor or wealthy land-owner.

He has done a great job for us too, so it is a double whammy.

Indeed Steeleye!

Not really to the extent that the Tories have. The chumocracy is so ingrained that they don't even bother to conceal it any more.

Anyway, well done, Roy. Very well deserved.

I’m not so sure but will now to your superior knowledge ( not being sarcastic)

Congratulations Roy, I don't believe in the honours system period but that's another discussion.

It is indeed. But I can't help picking it up. Years ago I posted that honours should be awarded solely for voluntary and unpaid charitable work, and I could see no justification for honouring top industrialists, entertainers and sportsmen (and women), who had mostly already earned huge amounts of cash.

That includes Roy. And it certainly includes that foul-mouthed bullying Scottish oaf from Old Trafford, who was given a knighthood. It still makes me angry.
