Agree with you to an extent. For example, all able bodied adults should be capable of acquiring an ID to allow them to vote. But if you go down the line of IQ tests to vote, at some point you'll start stopping disabled people from voting which isn't right.

The main reason why you shouldn't leave the democratic process to "intellectuals" is best explained by the final seen in the World's End.

Some of the wise men of the past are responsible for a lot of humanities most stupid decisions

Perhaps they weren't wise then.....or perhaps the decisions were less stupid as they were working towards an end they preferred....because while it affected the normal person didn't really harm them.

I haven't seen that movie but I take the point....here is my answer to it though.

The politicians you elect don't have the level of power of say Goldman Sachs or the international banks...the seriously rich business elites...the Greece situation made that plain.....when it comes down to it what people vote for is only allowed to change so much.

Most people like the conceit of thinking their vote matters....but any party that rises that wants to seriously change the system...say Labour under Corbyn or Trump in the US...see how massively and viciously they are attacked in the mainstream media and other propaganda conduits. That isn't an accident....and over time it has a significant affect.

The real power only partly lies in the hands of politicians and that's been the case for a long time....Since the time of Rhodes...the guy whose statue they want to tear down.

Call it the deep state, call it the party of Davos, call it what you want, but they shape what happens much more than a Brexit vote (which you can see has already been twisted on immigration)

Yes, plus modern Greece gave us the appalling Yanis Varoufakis, so beloved of the BBC.

To be fair, the newish Acropolis museum is simply amazing, but wouldn't have been possible had they not cooked the national finance books which the EU lapped up without question.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Missing on the good things, am lucky enough here to also have easy access to steamed chicken's feet.

Slightly going off topic....

With Goldman Sach's help no less.

However, I don't for one moment think the Germans....who we know mainly control the ECB...were fooled.

They wanted the Greeks to buy their goods and were willing to not look too deeply.

Yes but…look at the contents of sausages or pork pies. Haggis tastes sort of savoury and oaty. The proper stuff is a bit like slightly crumbly mince but with more flavour while the chip shop kind is like a battered sausage. It’s really nice.

Don’t be fooled Stirling. Had haggis once when, serving abroad with FO we had to attend a Burns night supper. Should have recognised the warning signs when, one if the Scottish members of staff, started addressing this stuffed sheep’s stomach on a silver salver! To me it tasted horrible but some seemed to enjoy it.
Always found it strange that FO are obsessed with Burns night.
Sorry Teddy

Each to his own Spiderman! I don’t like the turnip they serve it with the traditional way which is why I prefer the chip shop variety.
There is something called a Munchy box which is widely available and - copied from Wiki- includes several of these: kebab meat, fried chicken, pizza, chicken tikka, samosas, onion rings, chow mein noodles, pakora, naan bread, garlic bread, coleslaw, other fast foods and sauces such as curry sauce, chips or fried rice.
Heart attacks are not uncommon.

You have possibly pulled me back from a moderately unpleasant culinary experience.
