I loathe all this starting everything with the short goal kicks to a player in the penalty box and then playing it around at the back. One team at the Euro's started with a defender passing the goal kick to the goalie every time.
Even the cr@p sides like us pass it around for ages at the back like this now.
Give me the good old fashioned punt up field and winning the second ball any day!

All this takes me back to Frank de Boer's first home match. The defender (was it that poor chap who got smashed up on a motorway?) not only passed every goal kick to the goalie, but the goalie passed it back to him. Memory plays tricks, but I seem to recall that early on in the game the two of them did this about four times - at which point the crowd unsurprisingly started booing.

There is a lot of truth in this - I think as a style it can look fantastic, but it’s reliant on really technically exceptional players to pull it off, which 99% of teams don’t have access to.

It’s what I’ve always thought about Guardiola - some of the tactical things he does are really interesting, but they just don’t work without having world class footballers in every position.. can you imagine trying to play inverted wing backs with Joel Ward in the team?

I think Guardiola - and I'm No fan - has actually deviated from his time at Barca. ManC have played at times with more directness than I remember Barca ever doing.
raises him in my estimations somewhat. then he gets To the final of the CL and fecks it up haha!

Yeah, it was awful. I unfortunately remember that day well.
It wasn't Soure though.
Our back 3 was Fosu-Mensah, Dann and Reiderwald. Ward was our right wing back but not sure who was on the left. It may have been PVA.

So did Riedewald.
