Always had time for Ray. I spoke to him a few times back in the day (1990s) and he was always open, direct, clear, and never condescending. Had time to answer questions, too. This was in sharp contrast to David Kemp (another contemporaneous coach/assistant manager) who, frankly, spoke mostly gibberish. When Ray got his shot at managing us the first time around, I liked his approach. Tactically, he was very open-minded and creative but results didn't come immediately and he wasn't given much time. I thought then and still do now that we should have persevered with him. Not surprised it's a good, insightful read. Top man.
