Last season we shouldn’t underestimate Gary Cahills influence and guidance which helped him massively with his introduction to the first team. This season he has 2 x new centre backs to get used to and a new style of play under PV.

I’m confident he is the best choice for left back, give him time….

Good point re Cahill and tbf Guehi's first job is to cement his own position in the team.

The thing is everybody is learning at the same time and trying to find their feet at the same time.

Mitchell learning in a new system and being a first choice
Guehi learning in a new system and settling into a new club
Andersen learning a new system and settling into a new club
Ward learning in a new system
Viera learning about his players game-by-game

Why people are over critical after each game is too reactionary. It will take time with mistakes that are punished mixed with mistakes that are not punished. It’s early days let them settle into the playing style alongside understanding the strengths and weaknesses of their team mates.

We wanted a new era - this is it - give it time !

Seconded! Nicely put Nubes.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

And I'll third it. Relax, we're not in the relegation zone unlike 3 of the 5 teams still to gain a point!

Do you mean in a lower league or at an earlier age? IMO Mitchell is sound as a defender but has quite a lot to learn about playing out from the back. He is young enough to learn and progress.

At a lower league, I can't think of any players who at 21 aint good enough in the prem and continue to get selected and progress much

I know this will be unpopular opinion with a lot of fans but I genuinely believe we need a new left back.

Mitchell is a decent defender and excellent 1 v 1 but he is shocking with the ball at his feet and it really holds us back in a lot of instances. The amount of times he miss places or over hits an easy pass is criminal.

In today’s game we need more than a decent defender.

He certainly is lacking in attack. Today it was really noticeable.

i would like to show my support for the kids learning to play under a new manager…for clarity

1) he is not s***
2) he is still learning his trade at the top level
3) he is better defensively than PVA.

lets support the future of the club not put them down!

if you are a palace fan putting him down give your head a wobble & wake up.

Either radio 5 or Talk Sport today forgotten which one it was were discussing him as a future England international, anyone who can't see how promising he is is completely barmy.

Yes, I’ve been voicing similar concern for ages. He is improving but still not good enough. We need new fullbacks on both sides.

If you believe Mitchell is close to an England cap then you are completely barmy. He will never get an England cap with the players he is up against in that position.
