This feels strange…could it be…optimism?

And I can confirm I overheard it being spoken of in a local bar by more than one Palace fan who appeared to also mention that it could have been £40m, 50m, or £80m, or none of the above. In fact after several minutes I came to the conclusion that as per the rest of us, no-one has a clue!

I heard it was 50 mill plus whatever he gets for Wilf . so 55 mill it is

Do you actually read what others post on HOL or are you confusing us with "the few supporters who you have spoken to outside of this forum who you claim are underwhelmed at the appointment of Vieira."

For your information HOL (which you may have forgotten are ALL Palace fans) were decidedly underwhelmed at the prospect of hiring Lampard or Dyche and also had reservations about Nuno and Favre

He is a great signing for us. People are saying another FDB, but no comparison, FDB had no Premier experience at all and by all accounts was an arrogant git. Vieira captained the unbeatables and had a long successful career in the Premier. He has been coaching and managing for 9 years, so has experience. If you compare him to Cooper, who we nearly ended up with, who do you think the players would have more rspect for Cooper or Vieira?
By all accounts he is a modest down to earth bloke, he needs to be given a chance to build his team. A change was needed, thats what we have got.

Bang on. People can't complain about the 'steady as we go' approach of the past then be averse to change. In a way we've got what we wished for, and this could be exactly what we need. Give him time in the roll and see where it takes us.

I said to my wife over a tipple the other night that in my humble opinion, Vieira will not last the entirety of his contract.
Either he will be a failure and be relieved of his duties or he will prove a real success and be prised away by a bigger club.
My instinct of course might be proved wrong.

For once, Willo, I hope you're wrong on both counts. But if it has to be let's hope it's the latter and he's in demand as a highly successful manager.

He's a risk, but no more than some of the other names that were in the frame. At least his command of our language is better than Favre's.

I'm really hoping his experience will garner the respect and support of our team and be an incentive for new players to join our club.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

This would likely be the case whoever is the manager. Apart from Roy, we don't have a good track record of managerial longevity, for whatever reason.

My view is that if we had a manager without the profile of Vieira and he proved a success then perhaps bigger clubs might not be inclined to prise him away.

My view was formed due to the high profile of Patrick Vieira.
