Madness to loan out our best striker. Benteke should and hopefully will lead the line for us come start of the season.

Hope i never see him on the pitch again, personally, Lazy, no anticipation, slow, and clumsy, Heading his only attribute

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Depends which Benteke shows up next season if he is kept on. Villa days Benteke began to show himself toward the end of the season and at the Euros. Saw some of it in his first (?) season too if I remember rightly. At times he becomes a completely different player

I can imagine that whatever style of play that we adoptPV will want players that are good at not giving the ball away cheaply.
Who have we got that fits.

Possession and patient build up is apparently a Vieira thing and formation is a bit of a red herring. Not sure that we have many that suit that at all in the current first team squad.

Riedewald I can see becoming integral as part of a 4-2-3-1 type of set up perhaps as he's by a distance the best of our mids on the ball. Suspect Kouyate is one step ahead of Mili if we go for a form of double pivot.

Perhaps we will see a change of goalie as distrinuituon isn't VG's forte. Unsure whether Butland is any better mind.

Could this be the core of the side?

Butland
Mitchell Tomkins XXXX Ward
Riedewald Kouyate
Wilf Olise Schlupp (until Eze)
Tekkers

That's basically how I see it. SP said in his video released today that we need to b ring in younger players to catch up with the high press of the modern game. The other side of that coin is surely the ability to pass the ball accurately under pressure. So your XXXX defender will need to be a youngster like Nelsson.

Preferred your notional set up truthfully with a Gallagher type. I'm fond of Riedewald and he did look a prem player last season at times but he doesn't exactly add pace to central midfield.

Having read a write up on PV that emphasise how he likes a slow and possession based build up I now feel much more nervous. It's not just that it isn't the "Palace Way" - it feels an awkward fit for the assets we do have - in attack especially.
