i think its the later.

The photo you showed was the Railway Hotel Purley. Now gone. The Railway Tavern was in Croydon diagonally opposite West Croydon Station if I remember rightly. Buried behind shops. There is also one in Carshalton.

I have a recollection of visiting the 'Kings Cellars'. On one occasion there was a 'Stripagram' in the downstairs area.A gentleman was so eager to have a peek that he grabbed a wall light whilst lifting himself on to a chair , the light fitting parted company with the wall and the chap stumbled into some people below. The stripagram had bosoms akin to a couple of Hindenburgs.

No, Cinatras is at broad green, by st james road and sumner road junction, the sign is still there, a bit further towards west croydon station from said junction. The old Purley ballroom turned in to cinderellas eventually.Only went there once opn a monday night and am pleased to say i got a 100% shag record out of there, a nice young lady from carshalton, it was on the night in 87 I think of the storms, when I entered her domain, everything was normal, when I left the whole area was in turmoil, trees blocking every road, I hadn"t heard a thing!
