Sorry chaps, but wondered if any of you might be able to advise me how to resolve an issue that's recently hit my PC.

I'm using Windows 10 and in the last few days Task Manager crashes immediately it's opened. I've tried just about every clever-dick 'solution' suggested online with no success. Very strange.

Everything else is working just fine and I've never come across this problem although it would seem to be fairly common judging by the number of advice threads on the subject. I'm thinking the registry has been corrupted somehow.

I build my own machines, have done for years, and I keep them running clean so this issue is a real head scratcher.

I might download a PC Clean Up software package to help troubleshoot. Something like CCleaner.

Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas, views about which software would be most welcome and appreciated.

If there's a restore point on your boot up you could restore to a time when it didn't happen.
This would work if the issue is one of Windows updates that regularly f*** everyone over.
You have to interrupt the boot up with one of the function keys (f4 I think) and then go through the menu options to a restore point on windows from before the recent updates.
What I can say for sure is, there was a recent large update and it stopped my graphics drivers from working until I uninstalled and re-installed them.
Another thing worth checking if you build your own is, something silly not quite plugged in. Often a Ram chip just needs to be pushed in getter. Seen that before a couple of times.

Thanks AS. I've tried going to a restore point, but because I updated Windows it won't go back far enough. Everything is plugged in and connected OK.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Have you tried running chkdsk to scan and repair any bad sectors, directory errors etc?

Thanks Orange. I've tried a number of checks but not chkdsk as it happens.

I'll try it tomorrow. Appreciate the suggestion.

Just had a problem on the other half's computer - critical process died - took a host of blogs and 2 Youtube videos, but got it sorted with chkdsk and a restore point. Amazing tool, chkdsk!

Just a thought but find the ref number for your last Windows update and google it for problems.

I had exhausted all my options did this and realised mine was a common problem due to the latest windows update. Hopefully somebody will then have a solution.

Windows 10 had some updates this time last week one of them was a patch because it was reckoned a virus could attack your computer through the USB ports, unfortunately it left me unable to use either my printer or my vinyl cutter.
There was a lot of angry people on Stahls FB page (they are a company that sells Heat Press Machines & Heat Transfer Vinyl) & they must of contacted Microsoft pretty fast because the issue was resolved in a day & all you had to do was restart your laptop/computer.
I also had issues not being able to use the keyboard at the same time as the USB issues, so I took it over to my computer guy who said that the Windows 10 was corrupted & my Hard drive was on the blink.
He fixed it all for $110.00 (about 70 quid) including new Hard Drive & fingers crossed Its working fine now.
