My Spurs season ticket relation has laughed at me about Palace signing Andros every time I've seen him over the last 5 years. "He's ok, I suppose, if you want someone who's going to put his head down and run, but he ain't got a lot else", he would say. He did concede that his goal at Man City was a good 'un, though.

And that goal at West Brom, when he ran the length of the pitch from left back.
I never thought Bolasie knew what he was going to do next with the ball...so his team mates wouldn't have a clue either. Best sale Palace ever made.

Was at that Palace Liverpool match in 1972 myself. Tony Taylor!

To be clear...I was happy for Andros to be with CPFC. Yes, that WBA goal where he pretend-collapsed at the end!

1972 - happy days, eh? The subsequent home game was a 2-1 win against Newcastle, Malcolm Macdonald and all. I naievly thought that supporting Palace would always be like that. And then reality soon set in...

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Agree with most on this one. Classy exit from a decent servant who always gave 100% - even when his for dipped. Good luck to him.
Onwards and upwards to a bright young replacement!

It’s not that Townsend is a bad player. For me he’s not as effective anymore.

I'm amazed that nobody on this thread has pointed out that Townsend is, more than anything else, what Roy made him. His record and performances at Palace are a reflection of the manager. What he's doing now at Everton makes this clear. Whatever you think of Roy, attacking wide players were largely wasted under him (unless you think the main value of such players is tracking back). Even Wilf's comments this season make that clear. I have no doubt that Townsend under Viera would have delivered far more than he ever did last season (which is not to say I'd still want him here ahead of some of the players we have now).

It was said of Dean Smith, the legendary coach of the North Carolina basketball team, that he was the only person who ever held Michael Jordan to an average of under 20 points a game. The hoops equivalent of Roy, then.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.
