How much pension do you reckon retired Premier League footballers receive, Becky?

I have no idea, but pretty sure they make the biggest contribution to it from their own funds rather than taxpayers.

Plus a tax-free cash sum of 3/80ths of final salary for every year.

3x times total pension is correct. Luckily (?) I was able to work some Christmas, Boxing Day New Years Day plus other bank holidays to increase my final salary, not by much but it helped

If this works the same as any public sector pension, this article is nonsense. Firstly he would be able to take it at 60.
Secondly if you take your pension before 69, you lose 5% for every year you take it early, this would obviously mean a lower monthly amount. If he deferred it until 65, I believe he would get a higher monthly rate, so actually he is getting less by taking it now.
Having said that I can’t stand the bloke

Reading the article, after having my morning coffee, it seems the speakers pension is different to a normal PS pension so just ignore what I said, except the last sentence

agree the article is nonsense but MPs get much better pension benefits than a standard public sector pension. Reading the article it appears he can take if early without any penalty, which would not be the case with 99.9% of public sector employees.

His package will be part of his t&c so he's not doing anything wrong. To me it just shows what great benefits we give our MPs on top of their salary

Bercow was an MP for a bit under 20 years and under the terms of his pension scheme he will have had the pension reduced for taking it early.
But we'll if the usual suspects want to get all frothy about someone taking their pension so be it.

I have a pension and plan to take it as soon as I can guess I must be a hypocrite to.

And I have met Bercow a few times. He is actually far better company than most MP's
