Ye I agree in regards to the CB pairing. All going well that'll be the pairing but we must still look to the future to provide competition for an aging and injury prone Tomkins (who I'm a big fam of).

From the 5 I'd like to come in I'd say only 2 would be to go straight into the lineup (CM and Winger) with the rest bedding in over time and providing stronger competition for the squad.

We have let a lot of squad players go which I think was the right decision but we'll certainly need those holes filled and hopefully in most cases with better players than those who've departed.

That's how I see it as well. The 'team' we've let go comprised mainly bench players, redundant keepers and serial sickies and we need to bolster the bench options with a combination of newbees and our own youngsters.

On the CB front let's not forget we've still got Jaroslaw Jach. AT 27 and after 5 loan spells might he be ready?

To start the first game (presuming Olise is not fit - even if his injury clears up, will he have done any pre-season fitness work?) would be:

VG

Ward Ghuei Tomkins Mitchell

Kouyate McArthur Reidewald

Zaha Benteke Schlupp

By the end of the season, it could be something like:

VG

Ferguson(?) Ghuei Tomkins Mitchell

Gallagher(?) Kouyate

Olise Eze Zaha

Benteke

Schlupp, Riedewald, Luka, Jimmy Mac could all play instead of a new, young centre midfielder. Its really only injuries preventing a far more interesting, youthful and attacking line up.

Guitar

Clyne---Tomkins---Guehi---Mitchell

Kouate--Riedewald--Schlupp

Olise------Benteke------Zaha

Subs: Butland, Sakho, Ward, McArthur, Milivojevic, Rak-Sakyi, Ayew, Mateta, Omilabu.

Have Clyne and Sakho been offered new contracts, as currently they aren’t registered to play for us.

Haha imagine that.

Speaking of players who've been out on loan. I read that American we signed earlier in the summer has scored in his first two games whilst playing for his Belgian loan club. I read one tweet saying he'd only be able to register/ get work permit to play for us from next year... but I've got no idea how that situation works. Still it'd be great to have a nice surprise if he comes good.

Does Schlupp still play internationally? Had thought not but could be wrong.
Kouyate absence possibly a big deal but that impacts midfield and defence and would make me prioritise cover in those areas

But think the general point that we could be in nasty spot come AFCON stands given squad depth will likely be iffy and there's not great history without Wilf.

I think I'd like to see Mateta used more, but he has to grow stronger INHO. I guess I don't run training and see what's really going on.

I think we may still see Kouyate in defence if required e.g. Tomkins injured, Guehi deemed not ready, Kelly not preferred.

I am guessing Vieira knows all about Senegal given that's his nationality and he will have every idea where to play Kouyate. This could be a big year for Cheikhou.

In his question and answer session Vieira stated his preference for 433 with ONE defensive mid. He also sometimes uses a back 3 so I'm not sure a 4231 will feature much this season.

Also let's all try and spell our new CB's name correctly it's Guehi.

So as for the line-up come the New Year (and assuming all injured players have recovered and are match fit) I'd think in terms of:

Guaita

Ferguson Tomkins Guehi Mitchell

Kouyate Riedewald Schlupp

Zaha Mateta Eze

Now you're just nitpicking. he got all the letters right - just in the wrong order

I think it's probably a Palace thing as our ex winger Bolaise will tell you

At least he'll understand what Andre 'Preview' felt on the Morecambe and Wise show.

I've been trying to see if there is a putative wingback system that could work.

Tricky of course when we have only two CBs!

VG

Guehi Tomkins Kouyate

Clyne McArthur Luca Riedewald Schlupp

Benteke Zaha

Is Schlupp as a wingback that far a stretch?

Looking forward Ferguson could slot in on the right and Eze occupy a ten slot in central midfield.

Personally I suspect Olise may take more time to bed in than most hope for.
