This transfer window still has some mileage in it. Let's see who else Palace bring in before wondering about Kouyate. The benefit in keeping him is basically that he can do more than one job for us and we're still a little light at CB as far as cover goes.

He can negotiate a free contract deal from January so if we want to get anything for him we will need to sell him this window which would see some £3m+ off the wage bill and a small fee (say £2-3m).

Will be interesting to see how this pans out. I don't see him being offered an extension on his contract at his current wage.

I must say, this story was a surprise to me. I thought he was our best player in the Reading game, until he got sent off.

He can play in a few positions, he's not over the hill. We need him and he's good.

If wages are the problem, we should try and do our best to keep him but not on silly money. I think the days when we had to beg players to come here with stupidly high wages are gone.

I read in the click bait "reports" that he was actually in Turkey but I don't know how true that is.

I just hope we can keep him, players that can do a good job across different position are not that easy to find....

I just like him and he seems to like it here too, that always means something to me....

While he's been a great servant, has experience and of course versatility Kouyate isn't, in my opinion, our best at either CM or CB.

Our previous injury prone CB's forced us to rely on him but he doesn't seem as comfortable on the ball as Vieira seems to want.

That said I wouldn't want us to lose him unless we are bringing in both an additional CB and CM, preferably with premier league experience.

That seems unrealistic but it might be possible with the links to Hughes from Watford and possibility of Kabak on a free.

What amazing business it would be to effective swap Kouyate (at say £3M) for Kabak (free) and Hughes (£4-5M).
