No when Benteke’s contract is running out. Yes for the majority of his contract.
Realistically we will keep him as we have no one else. But unless we cross the ball there is no point him being there. If we actually crossed the ball a little more often he might even run.

Benteke Run !!! Don't think he can, or trap a bag of cement.

If you saw Lukaku today, there is a textbook example of power centre forward at his best. Compare that performance with how Benteke approaches the game and there is an ocean of difference - not even close. Bekkers is lazy, as noted previously, and his ball control is worse than the average PL forward. Hard to imagine who he would displace as a starter in any of the other 19 teams we are going to face this year!

In Everton's opening game of the season, Benitez played Richarlison down the left, Calvert-Lewin through the middle, Townsend down the right and Gray floating in a more central position. His instructions to Richarlison,Townsend and Gray was to get crosses in - Calvert-Lewin is of course good in the air and he scored the third goal.

I don’t get this playing for a contract chat. To think that a striker only scores when he is in the last couple of months is crazy. A forward will always want to score, and to think he could simply turn on the goals is mad.

Unfortunately, he is the best we have, so until that changes it’s a yes and he starts. He is lazy and doesn’t move much, hence why he didn’t work at Liverpool. He doesn’t run to the near post and won’t do a lot of the stuff we want him to do. He isn’t Lukaku, and he also isn’t worth 100m.

We all know what he is and what he isn’t. What he is excellent in the air. In the top 10 for headed prem goals.

But what baffles me is that that we don’t play to his strengths. The last 3 or 4 seasons we have been statistically one of the lowest crossers in the league.

Ironically in 16/17 we were 2nd in the league for crosses, and guess what, he scored 15 that year.

I really don’t know why the debate rages on. Put a decent number of nice lofted crosses into the box and he will score. Barely cross, or ping them along the floor to the near post and he wont.

He is actually 2nd behind Peter Crouch but these goals have been spread over 10 and a bit seasons.
His headed goals account for 39% of the total number of goals he has scored in the PL.

And for half of those seasons we haven't given him the service to score more.

Point remains, he is what he is. But he is the best at the business at 1 thing...we just don't help him do that thing

No, I don't think so, unless there was a replacement lined up who was a significant upgrade and we needed the money to finance the move. Otherwise, it's a bit late in the window to sell someone who is, like it or not, a key player.

Besides, I'm still hoping he'll rediscover his form now a new manager is in place. Ask me again in January!

No.
However, that May change depending on signings.

Problem with Benteke is that he's become incredibly one dimensional in attack. People keep saying that he needs service, and that is true - but he has become reliant on the perfect cross. If that service is not coming or is not where he wants it, then he's useless.

He appears to have lost his hunger for goals that every striker needs (and he had at Villa). He's not anticipating, he's not making things happen and not creating his own chances. A Half-chance is a No-chance for Benteke.

Those that said he only got one cross - well Motd highlighted 2, one which he missed (should have at least hit the target) and one that he should have made a run for. I'd be surprised if there weren't more that he could have done better with.

Shame we didn't used to give Townsend the same instruction.

Chance conversion rate is quite low in terms on number of crosses per goal, but offset by the high number of chances this style creates.

Unfortunately, many of our fans would slate Benteke any time he fails to convert a half chance.

It seemed like Benteke was pressing a lot more on Saturday rather than standing idol on the centre spot. I wouldn't be surprised if the team used to be under an instruction to not simply being lazy (like a aging overweight Sunday league striker nursing a hangover). Support of other players also pressing would have helped.
