How many minutes was Mateta given, and how did he look?

Got about 20/25 mins. Looked ok but didn't really get any shooting opportunities. Assisted the Banks goal though.

absolute rubbish from both of you. If we don't try and move things on we never will. It will be a learning curve but nothing the modern footballer/team isn't capable of. Have faith.

There is a reason why Roy did not play Mateta. Just like he did not play Sorloth. Turkey beckons...

Okay it was only a friendly but good players should have good habits.

Whatever the context of a match you expect players to be able to display the fundamentals of the game - ball control, holding possession, accurate passing, intelligent positioning etc.

I did miss the first 30 minutes (thinking it started at 7:30) but from what I did witness, I didn't see a great deal of those qualities last night.

Okay there were a lot of youngsters playing, but, these games are a great chance for them to demonstrate if they genuinely have the potential to make the breakthrough into the senior side. Likewise, our established players should be putting down a marker and showing PV they deserve a place in the starting line-up.

It was interesting to listen to Mark Bright's comments during the game on Palace TV. At times he seemed less than impressed with what he was seeing.

Was that Alfie Matthew’s on the bench as I was under the impression he’d been released and where was Omiliabu?

No, it was the new 3rd keeper Matthews. No idea where Omilabu was.

The U23's are playing Bromley away on Sat, same time we play Reading, think Omilabu will be involved at Bromley

I think the worrying thing is here we are just 17 days away from our first PL fixture and we do not have a first team squad that can survive in the PL. I know friendly games do not matter in terms of results but it is worrying that we are still making mistakes at the back and we still do not have a midfield dynamo or a proven striker who can score on a regular basis at PL standard. Whilst I want to be optimistic on our future, however, at the current point in time it does look so good and is of
great concern!

It’s not all that bad surely.

Benteke and Zaha were our most important forwards last season and they remain at the club.

We’ve potentially replaced a 35 and 34 year old centre back pair with two young talented players while allowing one that has been a sponge on the finances for far too long to leave.

Mitchell has replaced PVA and Jairo seems capable of providing cover as well as Schlupp.

In centre mid we have lost just one fringe player. If we replace him with a better younger player we will be stronger than last season.

Probs need Clyne to sign a 12 month deal. Sign a centre mid and a forward…on top of this Andersen signing.

What a load of garbage! How many regulars were missing last night??? Benteke, Zaha, Olise, Eze, Ward, Cahill (resigned contract soon), McArthur (only played last 30 mins), Schlupp (only played last 30 mins), Anderson (soon to be signed) Gallagher (likely loan) etc. We are easily good enough when we have a full team out
