I think the worrying thing is here we are just 17 days away from our first PL fixture and we do not have a first team squad that can survive in the PL. I know friendly games do not matter in terms of results but it is worrying that we are still making mistakes at the back and we still do not have a midfield dynamo or a proven striker who can score on a regular basis at PL standard. Whilst I want to be optimistic on our future, however, at the current point in time it does look so good and is of
great concern!

Don't worry I'm sure there's quite a few sets of fans of different clubs who are thinking the same.

Still more than a month of the transfer window left and I feel we've made a decent start in what has been a slow start for many. We could have a couple more in by next week.

Fine to disagree with someone but not necessary to call their comments "garbage". Is a bit of courtesy too much to ask for?

What a load of garbage! How many regulars were missing last night??? Benteke, Zaha, Olise, Eze, Ward, Cahill (resigned contract soon), McArthur (only played last 30 mins), Schlupp (only played last 30 mins), Anderson (soon to be signed) Gallagher (likely loan) etc. We are easily good enough when we have a full team out

This currently seems doubtful to me so I’m judging the squad as if he wasn’t going to stay.

Far from being concerned about the squad…I’d be more concerned about the manager.

It's the close of the window that we need to look at more,

While I agree the bed-wetters are overreacting based on a pre-season, I am not sure we will ever see Cahill in our colours again (unless he signs for Barcelona).

Also, while not based on last night, I am not sure they are wholly wrong. An inexperienced coach and un-gelled team will take a while to adjust and the early games will prove difficult for the low of patience.

But we should be fine by next May.

Let's wait and see, Eze will not be back this side of Christmas, Zaha heart is elsewhere and he was certainly not performing at his best last season, Cahill, like it or not is past his best and has not signed as yet, Gallagher and Anderson have not been signed at time of writing therefore its all just speculation at present and Benteke is not a modern day striker and is not capable of scoring enough goals in the PL to make us a threat and of course there is Ferguson who I have yet to see in a Palace shirt and on top of that we have an unproven Manager in PL and a new squad, It all points to very high risk as far as I can see!

We still require at least one if not two pacey defensive midfielders. We still get caught by the ball over the top and current midfielders seem to lack the pace to cover this
No matter who we have to come in or currently play. Need a Southgate style player to sit on front of the defence.

Agreed and I'm Doombear! Much will depend on what happens in the rest of this transfer window. Assuming Andersen is a 'done deal' bar the actual signing and photo then our minimum need IMO is:
- a CM
- one wide player
- a striker

and ideally another CB and a LB
We have 2 PL loans we could go for and other foreign loans as well and at least one more purchase after Andersen (we weren't chasing Lookman or Madueke as loans as far as I am aware so presumably there is some money for a wide player).

All doable IMO and we have the time. Also we don't know who else Dougie may have lined up when planning this window.

lots of ifs and buts in your above list.

Eze will be out until the New Year i believe so pretty pointless listing him at the moment.

Clearly it was a friendly but the squad is looking a bit thread bare and that's a reasonable comment to make

With our very tough early run of fixtures, I wonder if it might be better to have a team that is a bit of work in progress, than if we went into the season with our number one all transfers completed squad - then got turned over anyway by Chelsea Man City & Co

I suppose I'm assuming Clyne will sign and that the club will want to wait to see if Fergusson will be ready in the Autumn. If Clyne doesn't sign then yes another RB will be needed.
