Considering the other areas that we need cover for, and a mid fielder is thought to be needed , I just hope we don’t spend to much time haggling , without showing a clear interest in someone else. If Watford put him out of our range don’t spend the next two weeks trying to change that without a take it or leave it offer, based on our own option of another choice.
£5 mill for an experienced player of Hughs age has to be a joke, it makes me wonder if we are that serious, and I dare say has the same effect on the Watford, people. It should get to nine, or ten but if that’s to much, it has to be someone else , and soon.

There does seem to be a pattern here with Armstrong. That too was a derisory bid - unless it went to deadline with no one else in. Can't say Im sorry to see this hard-nosed attitude. It is essentially a buyer's market right now

Be a shame to let a diamond through of course but we are operating on a shoestring again now I assume given our early splurge - and there too I think we got it right by strengthening at the back as the priority.

Armstrong could yet prove to be a diamond but 20 plus mill was going to be beyond us I imagine. Hughes? Useful but replaceable is how I see it.

I have taken a peak at the Watford fan forum to see what Watford supporters think of their own player. and in the main it is not much. This typical:
He was great last season in the Championship, that's probably why. He was hardly incredible in our last PL season though and I doubt he's suddenly going to get a lot better, so if he doesn't want to be here I don't know why people are so keen to keep hold of him.

A lot of others think to sell for £5 is good business for Watford.

We can do a lot better than this - move on.

Our £5m offer has been rejected by Watford. Interesting to see what happens, in his last year of contract, so he can go for free next summer.
Understandable, we aren’t going to pay over the odds, if he is free next summer.

At £5m he’s worth a punt, but surely in time he’ll be no more than a squad player.

Can’t imagine there is going to be loads of competition for him. Villa a rumoured, but he’s not getting in that team.

Who should we move on to that would cost just £5m

According to the click bait pimps he would rather go to Leeds than us

In which case, he must be actively encouraged to do so.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

You are right but with Injuries like Eze's squad players might be called on for a long period of time.

There will be injuries ,there is every season, and we are already thin.
Jimmy Mac, won’t let anyone down, but he is not getting younger,
Under the unrelenting pressure of Premier league, he is only a sixty minute player, and it’s highly doubtful he would come out every week, Hughes, has to be as good as what we have.
It wouldn’t bother me if we don’t want him enough to pay more than £5 mill, as long as we do get a decent player in for the position.

There aren’t many experienced Premier midfielders in their mid 20s available for £5m. He would be a direct replacement for McCarthy, we need players like this in the squad.

Always been a niggly opposition player that I’ve disliked when playing against us. Probably the type of player we need and will become a fan’s favourite. It’s a YES from me :-)
