Having caught up on this fast moving thread, I still reckon the only sure fire way for Sol to succeed is to back his talent and buy a club. At the moment there is a danger he appears a bit of a spoiled child, demanding a role and is totally dumbfounded that anybody would ever say no to Sol Campbell. He is young enough, rich enough and.... if he is good enough he will make it. It would be fascinating to watch him do it.

It is a difficult and tricky debate to be had around Sulzeer Campbell. I gather he isn’t particularly well liked within the football fraternity and this also seems to be mirrored by a section of fans who follow football. He will cite that it is harder for him to be shortlisted for potential posts if he has been applying over a period of time without much joy. Ignorance or / and prejudice is part of the subconscious of many and Sulzeer being an outspoken, not charismatic and what seems to be deemed possessing an awkward personality adds to his limited chances of progressing as he so desires. Personally, I feel he needs to offer his services doing some sort of consultancy to clubs especially defensively and develop a reputation and list of contacts through positive relations with clubs then after a period of time apply for managerial positions after demonstrating and evidencing that what he says holds weight whilst making a difference That seems a good option. PV played with him - wonder if he’d be interested.

On Talksport before the Euros, Sol was on talking about managerial opportunities and pretty much said he could be as good as Guardiola if he was given a chance. How deluded and arrogant. No wonder he comes across as a crackpot if that's the sort of pearl he'd come out with on a job interview when asked about his ability.

Does that make me a racist? Not at all. I'm delighted we've got Patrick Vieira as our new manager. Vieira has earned the opportunity to be given a chance by reason of the apprenticeship at Citeh, NYC and Nice. Campbell is nowhere near earning the chance.

Rooney was a player at Derby , then a player/coach, joint interim manager and then manager. I accept all this happened fairly quickly about a year. Howver Derby had achance to assess him in all those roles before appointing him. Steve Coppell was initially a very strange appointment but like a few other sucessful managers he retired early due to injury eg Clough and Howe. He was also a student of the game and even at that stage he impressed with his knowledge and nous. Would it happen now not so sure. Shaun Goater is currently employed as a youth coach by Macclesfield where he was brought in by Sol Campbell Rooney came straight in to Derby in a player/coach role. Southgate would be a better example of a player who played for a club and then moved into a managerial role (at Middlesboro). Boro had to get special dispensation from the Prem league as Southgate didn't have the required coaching badges. I think Newcastle did the same wehn Shearer took over for a period prior to their relegation.

I dont work in football so maybe I am talking out of my rear end, but there are a lot of professional football clubs - quite a few of those have academy teams at various ages, most clubs have U18/U21/U23 & Reserve teams - ( many have specialist coaches for specialist disciplines) & often when a top manager leaves a club he takes his backroom staff with him - Additionally there are now a whole host of women's teams -so whilst there are undoubtedly a lot of ex players who want to go into coaching / management it seems to me that there are also a lot of positions which will require filling on a regular / semi regular basis - my point is surely a would be manager would be better off finding themselves a coaching position at a level, doing well at that level, eventually working their way up the ladder on the basis of having done a good job instead of complaining about the lack of opportunities at the top of the profession.

If Campbell had been any good he'd have a job. Even if he'd been average he'd probably be working. As he's been total pants, he hasn't got a job as a manager. I'm not convinced there's any reasons other than the obvious.

If those red Mancs can do it, why not Sol? Take over a lower league club, appoint himself as manager and let the cameras roll. It could be a great watch.
