I'd expect Benetke to play at Chelsea, quite possibly from the start. Giving him minutes in this game suggests a ramping up of his prepreations, and more to the point Mateta hasn't convinced in pre-season.

Looks like Benteke will play in the same game as Lukaku at the weekend against Chelsea, both Belgian team mates.

Subs: CG, Wells-Morrison & Banks off. Omilabu, Robertson & Streete on.

Very disappointing Brentford equaliser - their no. 7 unmarked at the corner.
Brentford had several big chances after that, as did Palace. Draw probably fair result, but can't help feeling we should have beaten them. Tekkers wasted several good chances apart from his well-taken goal. Butland saved a pen, and a Brentford shot hit inside of post, ran along line and came out again.

The right place at the right time

Controlled the game for large parts but looked a bit fragile at the back for set-pieces. Rak-Sakyi motm for me, looked a real threat and took his goal well (albeit it was then chalked off for offside!) plus he looked really strong on the ball. Butland also had a good game and looks very confident playing one-touch from the back.

I also think Bentenke will start Saturday and Rak-Sakyi has also given Viera something to think about.

A good fitness test in the end for the first teamers against a well organised and high pressing Brentford B.

Rak-Sakyi and Banks as we know look useful. But I was disappointed with Boateng who I thought did well against Charlton but really struggled to impose himself against the press and was very poor in possession. Hannam also definitely can't be considered as cover for the 1st team imo...way too early for him which leaves us a little short at fullback. Especially as I see both Ward and Clyne only really as backups (although obviously they'll most likely be sharing the load as there's no one else).

They mentioned on commentary that Tomkins was due to start but O'Brien ended up coming in. Hopefully not an injury.

Nice goal from Benteke (probably could have had another) and good minutes for him - definitely expect him to start against Chelsea. Gallagher's energy will be a welcome sight in the first team - today he was the only midfielder who could get on the ball where Boateng and Wells-Morrison struggled to get in the game.

FT 1-1

Fair result tbf, they could've won it at the death, we could've won it 35sec later.

Agree with TBTP, Tekkers will start on Sat, Mateta, no where near PL standard(yet ish), Rak-Sakyi & Banks have to be in & around 1st team squad. Not Hannams best match today, but every player goes through that, still best option for back up to Mitchell.

CG will be an important player for us this season, Jmac cant do it all on his own, Luka a good back up. The future is bright, the future is young red n blue, albeit slightly twirly.

No Andersen - bit surprised by that one. Would have thought he'd have benefitted from a run out.

He has a slight calf injury, apparently.

Agreed. Thought Kelly looked off the pace, I can see O’Brien being in 1st team squad within the year. Need to get Rak-Saki on long contract

He recently signed 5 year one

£3.99 for a month's pass for academy and U23 games is quite a bargain.

I didn't expect Rak-Saki to have progressed so much, and Omabilu looks like a Lookman in the making.

Callagher gives some bite, the rest had a job getting into it but once they did Brentford had to work too.

Our display marred by some abject marking, they would get steamrollered in the PL.

Onward ever upward.

Kelly doesn't look that comfortable on the ball to me and a couple of times seemed to want an age to get the ball under control before passing. He also seems to lack the aggression of a centre-back and gets out-muscled on set-pieces. Maybe I'm being harsh but I hope we don't have to use him this season. Of the two I actually thought O'Brien looked more composed, plus he carries a threat in the opposing box. If he could get a loan to a league one or championship club I think it'd serve him well.
