I think 3-0 is a result under the circumstances but I agree with Willo that beginning a season with that starting line up and bench after eight years in the premier league is absolute gash.

The club need to get their finger out and get some decent bodies in or we're fvcked.

It’s not often I laugh out loud when I’m reading these boards. Thanks for cheering me up.

People laughed when I said we haven't improved our squad, just the age, olise looks an exciting signing but is unproven, guehi and andersen can't do anything cahill and sakho couldn't do apart from stay fit, we've not replaced townsend, ayew is not a right winger and is even worse upfront, Mitchell has never looked that good and people look back through tinted glasses at eze who looks great on the ball but went missing in numerous games and offers nothing defensively.

We've been a one man team for the last few years and it'll be the same this year, before we was an old experienced squad who relied on wilf and now we're a young inexperienced one who will rely on wilf.

If zaha has a good season we will stay up if he has a poor one we will go down.

Chelsea will probably finish second this seaon so it was always going to be a tough game

However players seem completely bamboozled by the new formation. I went to the friendly against Watford and if it hadn't been from some great skills from Wilf we looked clueless as we did today

Ayew doesn't want to play as a winger and is clearly sulking already. Riedewald just isn't as good as Luka and every team we play knows that we have currently have one winger in Wilf

I reckon Viera gone by game 10

Back from the game...

Chelsea very good and on a high, we were never going to get anything out of the game today.

Mateta - Useless. Cannot hold the ball up, no pace, we desperately need something else - hopefully with a bit of pace.

Ward - love him to bits, but he cannoyy play out from the back.

Ayew - We need a proper right midfielder. Cannot defend or track back. Alonso completely open on the touchline all game. Ayew holds the ball too long, running around in corcles until he loses it.

Andersen - Looked great when he came on. Looking for the long out ball over the press, rather than fannying around knocking it square and back to the keeper.

We need Gallagher's bite in midfield, someone on the right for a decent out ball, and a bit of pace up front. 2 more signings should do it.

Onward and upward - we dont have to play Chelsea every week.

You seem somewhat surprised. I'm more surprised that it's not Roy Hodgson's fault.

On a lighter note, you may find this amusing [Link]

Very tough watch but it is clear as mud that we need a new left full back, Mitchell is not good enough at this level and it is criminal to have no replacement for him.

There were not many positives from that game but I would happily never see Mateta or Schlupp play football ever again.

Yes indeed, have been saying exactly this since he broke into the First team.

Ward is not good enough either, passable defensively but offers us less than Zero going forward.

People have also laughed at the bookies offering short odds against Palace being relegated and at pundits predicting it. We'll see.

You can't possibly judge (yet) whether 4 of those players represent an improvement, while Benteke WAS part of the dross for most of the last year.
