Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Very sad!

I'll be playing a few of their albums over the coming week as my own little tribute.

A terrific drummer. Mr reliable for the Stones - always looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but on stage with that bunch of reprobates. But, boy did he keep the beat for them.

Only ever saw them live on stage once. A great evening at Wallington Public Hall in the 60s, cost 7/6d to get in.

RIP Charlie.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

With their lifestyles it's amazing he got to this age really. He certainly lived a life of note. RIP Charlie!

He didn't go wild like Keef for instance. He's a walking miracle. Charlie lived a relatively quiet life married to his one wife since 1964 in rural Devon.

Devastating news. My heart goes out to his family, friends and fans everywhere.

For me personally, while I'm very sad to learn that my favourite drummer has gone, I'm so deeply grateful for the contribution he made to music over many decades and the memories that will always remain.

Miss You, Charlie.
