An opportunity missed to give the youngsters experience e.g. Rak Zaki, Hannah, Boateng, Banks and Street. Looks like Viera is copying Roy.

Let's keep the ball this season!

Got this horrible feeling that this was it for Vieria tonight.

Don’t get me wrong - not calling for him to go by any means, but sometimes there is that game or that moment that defines things. That didn’t look like a side playing for him - and RH has to take a lot of the blame as he killed a lot of confidence in the side.

Like Roy Keane, I don’t think he’s experienced a lot of adversity and is managing players who were beneath his level. But it all just has that feeling. It doesn’t feel quite right, no matter how much we’d like it to.

I don't see us hitting the panic button, but with up and coming fixtures it doesn't look good.
Who the hell would come in if it continues falling apart ? No one decent wanted the job before, even less likely now.
The squad has been left to deteriorate over the past few seasons and we are going to need a massive overhaul. If not buying players then we need to utilise the loan system, especially from abroad (as we already have one PL loan player).
If PV is astute enough, he will look to move some of these spent players on - perhaps in January.

we're just gonna have to patient, it's going to be a bit grim for a couple of months at least, not having seen the game I can't comment on the team not playing for Vieira, but it's clear he has an idea of how the game should be played and we haven't got enough players to play that way. We still have two full backs who should be reserves,
the central defence is fine, but Gallagher's inclusion has been more than off set by Olise and Eze's absence, while the forward line is showing signs of decline like our midfield has done. It will be tempting to get on Vieira's case, he'll get criticism for the Mitchell substitution tonight, but he must be given time for injured players to return and new players to fit in. Hopefully we get Hughes over the line plus a full back and forward in b4 the deadline.

I too did not see the game. But from the commentary we had 3 clear chances to score in the first half and missed them all. I might be naive but doesn't that mean that we need a goalscorer ie someone who would put the ball in the net.

I didn't see the match, but I saw the stats. We had massive possession advantage, more shots, more shots on goal, and more corners. From the stats, it looks like we dominated the game.

I see that as a positive thing. Last year, we were dominated almost every match, and had to hope for a lucky bounce, or Wilf miracle.

True, our forwards are still hopeless, but that should be relatively easy to fix. The rest of the team looks ok, doesn't it? Especially once we get Eze and Olise back?

I'm usually doom and gloom, but I honestly think we are more competitive this year than last year.

2020 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Newcastle

Far from being the end of the world at this stage of the season. Vierra still moulding together a team with many new players with the results against Watford and every other Prem. Team far more important in the league than in Cup comps.

High possession rate and increased number of chances on goal suggests progress. The fact that we didn't score is no different to previous seasons and reinforces the need to focus upon quality of strike play.

True but it’s rarely a Carabao Cup match in August!

Still ‘Work in Progress’ I would say.

I'd put it more into the teething problems box. There are always going to be a settling in period and I don't see this result as being the be all and end all in the big picture.

From our perspective it was a good night, quite a few players getting much needed game time and 2/3 wins this season, probably would have taken that before a ball was kicked this season.

From a neutral perspective It'll be interesting to see how the Vieira era goes for you. Some tough fixtures coming up and very hard to climb back up once you fall behind, as we learnt. That said, I think you'll be more than fine
