Anyone got any idea what Vieira's management style is like ?

I feel like the team needed a rocket in the last couple of games but don't get the impression that PV is likely to raise his voice with this team.

Any insight appreciated.

it's been stated here that he held the players (not literally) in the dressing room for an hour after last night's game - so it looks like he wasn't allowing players to hide - he has spoken of a need to 'change the mentality' - they all say that but I get the idea that he believes in attacking responsibility as well as defensive responsibility - commitment isn't just about pressing and tackling, it's about taking care of the ball and knowing how to be positive without being careless. He's having to learn a bit of man management as he goes on, but I quite like what I see so far, he looks and sounds like someone who gets respect.

you don't need to be a ranter and raver to get the best out of people. From what I've read, he's very articulate and clear with people what is expected and what he wants and there are consequences/repercussions when expectations are not met. If this is true, players will soon realise that they won't be in his plans for long if they can't deliver what is being asked.

Obvs, we need the squad in place so that there are alternatives if players can't execute the game plan. That's all part of the bigger project as I see it.

The worry being that he has a very disjointed plan of action to deal with. IMO there are to many in our squad that will always struggle to meet his demands. Added to that the squad in its present form is to thin whatever way it is set to play , certainly throughout a whole season. It is a work in progress , but progress will be minimal unless a number of additions are made to the squad, and this must be now, leaving it till the new year will only make it harder to find the right people wanting to come and risk a relegation. There is some promise in our play so far, but no goals is a worry , because it’s a team failure , it’s no good just looking at Benteke, and Zaha, the goals should be coming from all round the team. It’s not new for us. Viera, has a real job on his hands.

I hope he doesn't second guess his decisions so far. Unlike de Boer, PV seems to have a leadership style that can command the dressing room and instill some much needed confidence. Roy & Ray drilled it into the squad how to play their system, but since that did not require much talent on the pitch, we got way with it along with the reliance on sporadic brilliance of Wilf.

The biggest problem remains the depth in the squad he has to work with, not much latitude to take decisions on poor performers at the moment.

Why are we always last minute Charlie's when it comes to recruitment of proven goal scorers and full backs, our most obvious weak spots? A "playmaker' in midfield wouldn't hurt either.

What I can't understand is why he doesn't try ayew in the center. He's a center forward not a winger and was our top scorer when he did play there. Surely he would suit PV style more than benteke?

Interesting views.

The summary seems to be:

1. The current squad isn't good enough whatever PV's management style is.

2. PV isn't a ranter & raver. I would suggest any PL Manager needs to have the occasional rant to stir & motivate well paid PL players especially after a string of poor performances.

I'd try 4-4-2 with Benteke and Ayew up front. Ben to knock down and Ayew to score. Ayew just doesn't appear happy or good enough to be the sole target man, while Benteke can.

Is this yet another relegation battle season?.
I sure hope not. We have seen enough of these to last a lifetime and I don't think Viera is the answer.
I'm betting he'll be gone before Christmas, probably sooner. Oh dear!!

Tbh I'm hardly surprised he hasn't yet got our attack going considering he's got exactly the same misfiring attack as last year minus Eze who was the biggest bright spark last year and Townsend who was the most likely provider of goals for Benteke.

Really hope we give him the backing and get 2 more attack minded players, a CM who's comfortable on the ball and hopefully a loan wing back who can provide a better attacking threat.

That's 4 players however and I'm not convinced we'll do that much business even though we need to.

On a positive note the signings that we have made all look like quality additions... just a few more please!!

I'd be surprised if anyone who saw Vieira the player doesn't think he has a rant in his locker if required. He was a supremely talented player but he could be a right nasty *$&$ when he wanted to be.

After seeing his post Watford interview he knows exactly what is needed to put us on the right path. A clear plea to the board for more offensive players.
