For just £135m less than Mbappe, an absolute steal.

Give the boy a chance!
The jury is out but let's see what happens - The Manager obviously wants him so why not?
Looking forward to seeing him in a red and blue shirt.

For those in any doubt, Hughes is clearly coming to us given what Vieira has just said in his press conference.

Surprised at some of the negative comments on here. No doubt many Watford fans think he's a loss for them. He clearly is different to what we have in midfield. I cant wait to see 2 midfielders running for the ball and closing down angles with energy! It has been too long.

£5.5M (plus add-ons) for a 26 year old, with England youth pedigree, from a fellow premier league club, whose fans largely want him to stay, with Prem experience - it's close to robbery even in a buyer's market.

Just get Nketiah and Lookman and, with players returning from injury, by New year we will be motoring up the table.

How peeps can be negative about this signing baffles me, 26 yrs old with proven premier league experience, a shoe in for the way we want to play, long term macca and gallagher will move on, for 6 to 10 mill absolute brilliant bit of business, irritating sod against us now our irritating little sod

If we're playing 5 at the back with a midfield of 2, you don't want Jairo, Schlupp, Kouyate or Luka alongside Gallacher. Currently it's McArthur and Gallacher, or we'll get overrun and not have the distribution.

If Gallacher is injured, you don't want to be playing a midfield consisting any combination of the others - we saw last year how bad it was -we can't keep the ball.

After this season, there's a good chance we won't see Gallacher again.

Hughes is the first central midfielder we've signed for about 5 years that offers something different. At £6m and 26 years old with experience, I really don't see the issue here.

Exactly! What is the issue for those who are underwhelmed?
- Have they been spoiled by the signings we made earlier in the season?
- Indeed, which different type of midfielder do they expect the club to sign for less than £10m?
We need to remember that the club has already spent nearly £45m so far this window. That's not a bad outlay for a club our size and the inference from who we are realistically being linked with is that we have up to £20m (possibly more) available for the rest of this window.

we've bought central midfielders, just of a similar style - McCarthy 2 years ago and Kouyate the year before.

My fear (and i'm happy to be proved wrong) is that Hughes is not massively different to the ones we have

A good solid signing for the money. If he turns out to McArthur quality that will do. I mean in his pomp of course. Should compliment Eze when he’s back.

Jimmy McCarthy didn't pull up any trees but he provided essential competition for places in an area we were weak, and he was cheap and a good purchase at that time. Same with Ayew - £2m for genuine quality, he's fading a bit now but those two signings on the cheap were vital to us staying up - they can't all be marquee signings - and the same applies even more so to our latest acquisition. He's at least as skillful as our other DMs and he provides (along with Gallagher) the pace, energy and link play we have been lacking in the heart of our midfield. Hughes with any two from Gallagher, Eze, Olise and McArthur is a decent midfield.
