Whilst its probably true that Wilf isnt as effective as he was in his younger years I think we also have to acknowledge that the opposition clubs have had several years to gauge his talents, strengths, the level of danger that he brings & produce a working plan to nullify him - to me this is where CG could really be beneficial, the opposition target Wilf ( as the known threat) Wilf instead of dribbling / step overs etc threads the ball to Conor who now has space

Really? I thought he was absolute toilet again. Outpaced by Coufal.

You could say that about anyone who touched the ball in the build up then? Wilf had little to do with them. First goal was all about Guehi moving forward with purpose. And second was pure class from CG.

Indeed. Wilf's contributions to the 2 goals were no more important than Guehi's, Benteke's, McArthur's (assist for the 2nd goal) and no doubt others. What I would say, though, is that it was good to see Wilf playing as part of the team in the 2nd half and knowing when to pass instead of trying to dribble etc.

In a Viera, system it is very likely Wilf, won’t be quiet the wild card he has had to be for seasons now.
As he gets older this may well suit him anyway, it’s essential for there to be more cohesion shown in our attacking play and that is harder to achieve if Wilf, is being the lone marauder. In particular if he is giving the ball away to often.

in fairness to wilf. didint he have his most productive return for goals last season in a palace shirt?

indeed we do not see him anymore running at pace into the penalty area getting fouled and winning a penalty anymore!

Agree with this

Wilf will likely have quite a different role not least because we will be playing the ball through the middle much more and not using him as the inevitable release ball. He's going to see far less possession and when he gets it it will be as often as not against a set defence and not one in retreat from a break.

Also think it notable how many aerial duels Benteke won. I'm seeing it as quite likely that we will be looking to use Tekkers aerial threat far more this season - not something that was a preoccupation under Roy really unless it was to hold the ball up. This in turn might turn Wilf into more of a provider than finisher. Yes, his role in the first goal was indirect but that might he where is used primarily unless Mitchell really does turn into a wingback and push him inside to an inside left role.

Dp you think wilfs got the hump because he's back on the wing and not playing CF, which seemed to be his preferred position last season

No, although not sure he was happy on right against Brentford
