I would add one other thing to the above and yes, I agree, it's a fantastic signing. This: Listening to the fairly lengthy interview with Edouard on Palace TV (I presume), he's clearly not your typical footballer which may go some way to explaining the issues he had towards the end of his time at Celtic. There are no "over the moon/sick as a parrot" answers; he comes across as introspective, thoughtful, articulate, measured, and intelligent in his answers to questions. That's the type of personality that in general, when it's focussed and happy, tends to be very, very successful but when it gets a bee in its bonnet, things tend to go downhill rapidly. What happened at Celtic tends to underline this. Playing-wise, as I said, I think Edouard is an outstanding bit of business. But I do think he'll need to be managed with kid gloves, or at least carefully. I don't think he's your run-of-the-mill, chuck him in and leave him to it, personality. Parish has rightly long stressed bringing the right sort of characters into the dressing room being a component of success. That makes Edouard a really interesting signing. I think we may look back on this as the best bit of striker business we've done since we lifted AJ from Birmingham.

Unlike Gabbiadini, Edouard doesn't have a truly great Palace forward to follow, I hope he takes this chance by the scruff of the neck and proves the piece of the puzzle we have been lacking.
Makes it difficult for Ayew and Mateta, I can't see them getting much gametime.

I think Ayew will always have a role because, in the end, he's the classic utility player; brilliant at nothing but massively versatile, hard-working, and capable of scoring a goal (at least on occasion). If he's in your starting X1 you've probably got a problem but if his role is at the end of the bench providing depth and fifteen minutes to close out games, you could do a helluva lot worse. Some people need to start judging him for what he is; not expecting him to be what he isn't. Mateta, though, I think is done. He's had opportunities and I think he's simply proved not quite good enough to grab them. He's not hopeless, but he's shown nothing to suggest that he's a starting, goalscoring centre forward at PL level. His impact over the past nine months, Brighton goal aside, has been more or less invisible.

on paper a great signing and clearly at a price a lot lower than it would have been a year ago. A little concerned with the wages we are paying him and Hughes in this post covid environment but lets face it Palace is hardly the biggest name in the Prem.

He is definitely a class above what we have but clearly will need the service and also the right mentality to succeed - you only have to look at Tekkers, a proven international striker to see how things can go wrong.

I watched him score a hat trick 1st game of last season v Hamilton. All 3 goals were scored in the 6 yard box. He may not get the same number of opportunities in 10 games at Palace!!

However, he has pace and an eye for goal, so just seeing a striker in the 6 yard box when a cross comes in would be nice. Fed up seeing Tekkers hiding behind the last defender and Zaha not even making a run into the box when we attack from the opposite side.

Lets give the guy time to adjust both the Palace and the Prem. We are a bit of a graveyard for strikers at times.

Think you'll find we have the ball in or around this area more then you realise, the problem being having a player there at the time, hopefully this chap is able to replicate the efforts we had from Murray in the Championship.
