The first 'brexit' tax, probably several more to follow.

1.25% point increase on employees’ and employers’ National Insurance Contributions, a 10% increase on current rates, to pay for state subsidised social care. Given that it’s only those employed and their employers that pay this tax and no one over 65, whether employed or not, pays it or not, is this fair? Unearned income such as rental profits, dividends, interest etc. not subject to NIC. A tax that only hits the younger, working, less wealthy population.

Given the demographic on here I’m sure you’re all delighted my generation will be working the next 30 years to pay for someone to wipe your arse in a couple of year’s time but thoughts on here? A manifesto pledge broken by Johnson but does anyone give a sh*t what he does or doesn’t do or say?

Personally fine with it. Something has to give – pretty much every public sector is chronically underfunded. Quite happy to pay an increase in tax – although the amount actually going to social care is tiny compared with what is being siphoned off for the NHS. Still, better than nothing.

Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons.

I believe it's more likely to be a Covid 19 tax, as that is what was missing from the manifesto. Or is it better to break the "fix social care" pledge?

I think it's great that people who've worked hard all their lives now won't lose everything if they end up in care, shouldn't have put it on N.I but maybe guarantee a part of V.A.T for it so that everyone contributed.
Or maybe the £350,000,000 a week we were saving for the N.H.S due to brexit.

We live in a society where the disparity between the poorest and richest is growing larger and larger. Wages in real terms have been stagnant for over 10 years and are yet to recover from the last financial crash.

Why then, can't we tax wealth instead of wages to better fund the NHS and Social Care?

That or we can just use the £350mil a week Vote Leave promised to give to the NHS when we left the EU to plug this gap.

Covid is being used as a very convenient excuse to cover up the shambles of brexit and the very poor deal Johnson agreed to sign with the EU.

I hadn’t even read the details. I assumed all the talk was about care in the community. Turns out it’s nobody pays more than £86,000 for their care from October 2023.

Ah. Of course. You think that furlough and the shutdown of society cost nothing. Whereas in the real world, it cost plenty. And that money may be what is missing from the "fix social care" pledge. So a pledge must be broken. Which should it be, in your opinion?

Not that it matters anything to you, being an Anglophobe, and living in another country.

Yep, the usual denial from the blinkered. Often looking in from the outside the real situation can be seen, it's called perspective of which you seem to have very little.
