Can’t stand G&T but back in the day brown and mild always sounded better than light and bitter. Maybe the drink Brown is banned now, who knows

Maybe Spider, on taste alone!

I seem to remember the very flat pink bubble gum which would usually come with a couple of WW2 Cards, normally depicting a Jap screaming BANZAI & graphically lopping off someones head. Oh & Bazooka Joe as well......

There was also the American civil war cards where you got a card and a dollar bill. The bubble gum in those cards was always dusty and shattered into mouth gouging shards if you tried to eat it.

You can still get Newcastle brown in bottles - use it when cooking a carbonade of beef. Actually prefer Mackeson for that, but it's like looking for a needle in haystack to find a shop that stocks it!

On the subject of drinks..... Snakebite anyone?

I used to drink with a bloke whose choice was snakebite with creme de menthe in it. He was a strange fellow.

Not much "over the counter" stuff round here either to be honest. Unsurprisingly most pubs see themselves as restaurants.

On the subject of black and tan etc, it frankly never occurred to me about the racial connotations. How sad that even a drink is suspect because of what it's called.

Mine's a white wine please landlord!

I will stick to a red ! With a pint of the black stuff chaser.

You just reminded me, that gum you got with cards was always tough on the roof of the mouth, came as a slice of rectangle, hard as nails and tasted crap!

More of an Irish thing than anything else. The Black and Tans aren’t well remembered.

Have to say that on a hot day I prefer small bottles straight from the fridge in a glass from the freezer.

Pints of bitter preferred in the winter. Or a brown and mild....what happened to that drink?

My late father used to drink brown ale and mild was very popular in the Midlands.

I have a sneaking suspicion that both were drunk by people who didn't really like the taste of proper beer and those people switched to lager when the massive lager invasion started

They actually wore very dark green and khaki. A mixture of WW1 and RIC uniforms.

What are the ingredients to a Dark green & khaki? Chartreuse and Baileys maybe. A pint would be pricey.
