Think people are getting way to defensive here or some just over reacting completely. I haven't said Ward is no good or is rubbish. I've simply expressed an opinion that I believe if we want to move forward and better ourselves he is not good enough in his forward play to take us to that next level.

It was fine under Roy because he and some sections of the support were more than happy treading water. I'd like to think that we are now in a new era under Viera and looking to push on.

Disagree if you want I couldn't care less but that's my opinion so I'll stand by it...

I think you just flounced at what you anticipated I was saying rather than what I actually said.

No not at all... In fact it wasn't you I was referring to when I mentioned people over reacting... You're really not that important that I would 'flounce' over you, or anyone on here for that matter.

By all means, if it makes you feel better in your mind then feel free to think you were worth flouncing over

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

I can't think of another Palace player over the almost half-century I've been following the club that has been as unfairly disrespected as Ward. Fine, he's not a high-profile player in an age where being media-genic counts for far too much and he's maybe not world (or even international) class but successful clubs all have their Joel Wards; steady, honest, reliable, NOT error-prone, fly-under-the-radar and, I suspect, leaders off the pitch as well as contributing on it. Reading about Ward on this forum, you'd honestly think he was f***ing useless and needed to be replaced immediately lest he singlehandedly took us down with his substandard play. That's just rubbish. It's about time some of you gave him the respect he not only deserves but has earned.

Nicely put Syd.

There's no greater servant to the club since we've been in the Prem, and agreed that JW is very far from the stereotypical personality of the modern footballer. I think he said in an interview a few years ago that he had splashed out on a Renault Clio.

At this stage of his career, it would be great to have a real young talent (like AWB) coming through to share the load a bit and add more of a wing-back type option where tactics in a particular game warrant it. Hopefully Ferguson is that talent, but I've never seen him play.

To be calling now for Clyne though seems based on nothing but absence making the heart grow fonder. I was really pleased we were able to get Nat on board for nowt to provide cover, but there was nothing in the games he played for us to suggest he would offer any more attacking option than JW, and defensively he was a fair way off of the kind of solidity that JW has provided so far this season.

I've lost count of the number of times Joel has made goal saving clearances in and around the 6 yard box when helping out the central defenders. I don't see many other full backs doing this and we were weaker defensively when Nathaniel played in this role last season.
I also think Joel in intelligent in possession and does not give the ball away much.
He is also back to getting crosses in the box.
Long may it continue.

I would like those clamouring for Clyne to tell us exactly what he's done since he's been back at Palace to warrant ousting Ward. Is it a case of thinking he's the same Clyne who played for us first time round?

Whilst Clyne may have shown a bit more attacking skill than Ward did last season, his defensive game hasn't matched up to Ward's IMO. Also as has been said elsewhere, Joel's attacking game seems to be improving under PV's guidance.

Ha perhaps none of us are that important but surely we are all worth at least one flounce?

I think we all can agree that JW is an honest player and a great servant for Palace in defense, but he gives the ball away too often. His distribution is simply not up to PL standard, and with the way we are not playing (out from the back) - I am always worried when Ward carries the ball forward.
