Dare I say it, but if we don't create more chances and convert them, we could end up as this season's Brighton. However, I still view us as a team in transition that is heading in the right direction. Fixtures wise we've had a tough start. We will need to beat the teams around us to get the points total up. the pressing game and high energy is a joy to watch but the lack of creativity is a concern. At times the build up play was very slow which enables teams to get 10 men behind the ball. We seemed to struggle to get Edouard into the game and with Ward/Ayew on the right there is almost zero crosses from that side. The occasional moment from Zaha and the energy of Gallagher bursting into space seem the only way we will create ATM. However, a solid foundation to build on.

We must not become draw specialists,to avoid a relegation scrap we need to win games, being the better team and draw is simply not good enough.

Yep, definitely moving in the right direction. PV has done a terrific job in a short space of time to transfer our old age, defensive formation into a modern, high press style which, as I think we all agree, is so much more joyful to watch. We are not a wealthy, high profile club so it'll be a long time before we can afford top flight players. But all the while PV can make silk purses out of players like Ward and Mitchell, both of whom have improved enormously, we'll continue to flourish. Onwards and upwards lads.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Hopefully when Eze is fit , and Olise gets a chance to show what he can do, our creativity will improve. When we did press last night all too often the final ball was misplaced - over hit, just behind our player, or straight to the opposition. I agree that our build up is a bit slow at the moment.

Olise is apparently an excellent player - in as much as news from the training ground indicates that to be the case. Edited by The Dolphin (28 Sep 2021 2.03pm)

We do need to start picking up some points, but we always knew these opening fixtures were going to be hard. What hasn't made it any easier is that as well as top teams, we've also played form teams (WH, Brighton, Brentford, Spurs at the time). And despite the poor points return, we've played better that I could have hoped. Whilst not easy the next three could yield some points.

We could easily be on 10 points if not conceded to the last kick last night and the sitter in the last minute at West Ham

If we keep doing what we're doing it should be an exciting season for us, and bodes well for the future.

The build up and pressing is good to watch but we look absolutely blunt IMO. Too many passes and a lack of cutting edge. Eze can’t come back soon enough.

With a fully fit Ferguson & Eze plus Olise & Rak-Sakyi to bring in too, we will be flying and fully transformed on the Right hand side. The service to Edouard will be much improved and it will also take some of the pressure and expectation off Wilf and Mitchell on the opposite side too.
