What difference does any of that make?

It's funny how excuses for decisions the system has enacted are unironically presented as somehow in opposition to the point.

With a little bit of anti white nonsense thrown in at the end.

Thank the heavens we now live in a world where you can't go on mainstream TV, sat next to a black man and use phrases like "ni**a in the woodpile."

It was racist then and it's racist now, but thanks to a lack of education people didn't either realise, or care... much like folks used to excuse sexual harassment and assault as "a bit of fun", "banter" etc.

What I find equally hilarious is 99% of the time I see posts and threads pop up like this, it's NEVER a woke youngster, but rather some middle aged and older white bloke from the "university of life" trying to find tenuous ways and examples to excuse and validate their own racist, outdated and embarrassing opinions.

Well stated. Contrived, unsustainable perspectives.

If Geoff Hurst was running for office, this would be dug up, widely broadcast, and his party would dump him and then issue a po-faced, puritanical statement claiming it condemns racism in its every form and apologizing for the slave trade.

Meanwhile Diane Abbott/Lenny Henry would pop up on the Today Program claiming that this sort of behaviour barely scrapes the surface etc.

For the record, I am glad phrases like this or "play the white man" are resigned to the dustbin of embarrassment along with other views and opinions people genuinely used to hold about homosexuality, mental illness, physical disability, age, women etc. However, my understanding was that this thread is not about bringing those phrases/opinions back, but the politically motivated over-reaction if it were said today.
