Last night on sky the pundits reckon Benitez will be back at NUFC. They reckoned Everton fans have had enough already. Well, not Clinton, but others.

Think Howe is a decent fit for them actually - better than Emery.

He bought very well mostly - and very expensively- at Bournemouth. He's way more familiar with the transfer market here than the other contenders. The only way they are staying up is if they get the right pros in in January. That for me means buying the right sort of PL experience.

Personally think they're doomed as it's a strong league this year - the strongest I can remember. Theoretically they could get 25-30 points in the second half of the season as the likes of Pulis, Allardyce and Pardew managed after a reboot. Those were different times though. Very few soft 3 points on offer home or away and real strength all the way down to 16/17.

He knows the Championship too, so could be a option as long as it's not too far north for him.

All the money in China and they end up with Eddie Howe. Talk about an anti climax for the fans. Certs for relegation.

I cannot wait for them to be relegated and be the richest club in the Championship - that really will make my season!

Quite honestly they could have stuck with Steve Bruce till the end of the season & he would most likely have kept them up - ( He has done in previous years)

That would have bought them the time to plan for the future -

They could even have given him the opportunity to pitch for the job in the close season along with other candidates -

Yeah but he’s fokkin useless and holding them back from being where they belong challenging for top 4. It was really the 2nd thing to please the fans and make them heroes as owners. Nothing is being planned or thought through by anyone, which is a great sign.

Yes I guess when they bought the club they figured that (with all of the money that the new owners could draw on if required) managers would be banging at their doors desperate for the chance to manage NUFC as this "new age" dawned.

I thought Howe was quite adamant that he was going to wait for the Southampton job to become vacant (a local club appointment) what's he going to do if he takes the NUFC position & in December Southampton sack Ralph Hasenhüttl ?

Newcastle fans truly believed that the job was for one manager to build the club up and take it from where it is to challenging for trophies, and it’s too good to turn down. Reality is slowly sinking in that it’ll take 3+ managers and a lot of time and some risk to the reputations of these managers if they don’t succeed, especially this first manager.

What will Southampton do if Howe and Newcastle lose every week?

Good post. Chelsea and City didn't get it right first time and they probably had better squads than Newcastle.

Howe makes no sense to me. Yes he built up Bournemouth and got them up through the leagues, but he’s not exactly known for his teams defensive quality. Newcastle are a mess. Their defence is Championship at best, I would go so far as to say that not a single one of their defence would get into another Prem team.

Their midfield is unbalanced and with the exception of ASM and Willock, just not good enough. Even then, Willock is still young and inexperienced and ASM missed 18 games last season.

Their only other shining light is Wilson who’s Hamstrings are likely to go at any minute.

They could be so far adrift by the end of December that even with their financial might, they could really struggle to attract players of any quality. Between now and the Jan window, they have to play Brighton, Arsenal, Leicester, Liverpool, City, Man U and Everton. The only winnable games in that period are against Brentford, Norwich and Burnley. If they don’t win all of those 3, they are pretty much done and dusted. They were ridiculously lucky against us and I can see them struggling against Brentford and Burnley as well as being hammered by the rest.

Even if they had £200m to spend in Jan, who is realistically going to sign for them if they are on 6 or 7 points, apart from complete mercenaries. I can’t see a single one of the players the media have linked them with (all probably made up) wanting to join them in that position.
